General Hospital viewers knew it was was inevitable that in the aftermath of the Coronavirus some cast members would be cut. It had been reported that COVID-19 restrictions and precautions were expensive so naturally budgets would be affected. Fans of the ABC daytime drama were shocked however at the way the executives went about making changes. Five cast members are out and now ABC has fired two executives who had a hand in daytime programming. This will surely make a difference in what viewers see going forth in Port Charles.

Kim Delaney was hired as reporter Jackie Templeton who was working on a story with Lulu Spencer. Jackie was suddenly called out of town and now Lulu (Emme Rylan) is in a coma and was sent to a long term care facility outside of Port Charles. That entire storyline seems to have been scrapped. It’s been confirmed that Rylan who was beloved by fans has been fired and Mark Lawson who portrayed Dustin was let go. His character was killed because of the explosion at the Floating Rib which is how Lulu was injured.

William deVry,(Julian Jerome) and Ashton Arbib, (Dev Corbin) were also axed to the shock of their devotees. Now ABC execs William Burton and Vicki Dummer have been fired as part Walt Disney Television’s layoffs and restructuring. It’s also bern reported that Disney is laying off 18,000 employees at its Florida location and ending the free college assistance for those who work for the company. The pandemic has hit hard and the Magic Kingdom is feeling it big time. Burton and Drummer may only be the first of a number of executive firings.

William Burton and Vickie Dummer

Dummer worked for ABC Entertainment for more than 24 years and was Head of Current Series Programming. As part of her role, she supervised numerous creative aspects for General Hospital and she was a well known supporter of the daytime drama. William Burton, had only been with the network since 2018 and he was SVP and Head of Sports, Daytime, and Syndicated Development/Production for ABC Entertainment. He was involved in the creative side of the business. Any time execs are fired it means changes somewhere down the road for cast members as well as viewers.

General Hisputal lovers are not making sense of the firings of deVry, Arbib, and Rylan. Lulu is a staple in sport Charles and her ex husband Dante had just returned to town. After Dustin died, Maxie implored her BFF to let Dante know she still loved him. Lulu opened her mouth and her lips said “I love you” but no sound came out and this is when she fell down. Fans believe that leaving the character in a coma indicates she will one day return but there are questions regarding who will have the part should that happen. Arbib s character was beginning to grow on the audience and fans hate that he died while the family was still grieving Sonny’s dad Mike.

General Hospital went through all the trouble of having developing this character for two years only to abruptly drop him. Dev escaped Turkey and came to America, got a new identity, a family who loved him and friends, just for the powers that be to to kill him off. It is William deVry’s departure that truly has GH fans up in arms. Julian Jerome is a complicated man but most viewrs live the character. The writers, however, kept him estranged from his family and the love of his life Alexis. They wrote him in such a way that there seems to be no chance of redemption. In his final scenes on the show even his sister Ava turned on Julian and was ready to shoot him.

Dustin and Lulu are out.

The action on General Hosputal has increased and the last week has produced a lot of must see TV. It’s disappointing however that this has come at the expense of favorite characters. Now that two daytime executives have list their jobs, there wil probably be more changes to come. Taggert is back but there is always a chance that Cyrus could really kill him. Bobbie, Scott, and Lucy are rarely seen and Laura’s portrayed Genue a Francis is no longer on contract. These popular characters could simply fade into the woodwork. Dominic Zamoragna might leave General Hosputal again once Dante has taken down Peter August who will most likely end up in Pentonville.

It looks like Nelle is really dead but when Nina finds out that Jax did not tell her that the psycho was her daughter, that relationship will probably end. Viewers should not be surprised if Jasper goes back to Australia. It’s not clear if Franco will survive his latest brain trauma and Sasha Gilmore seems to be fading into the woodwork. Everyone knows that Cyrus will eventually leave but who knows what surprises the writers might hit the viewers with. Be sure to stay tuned for updates and breaking news regarding the changes to come on General Hospital.
