'Mary Poppins Returns' Review
Mary Poppins Returns is a weird movie. But not necessarily weird, in terms of what happens in it—if you’re watching a sequel to Mary Poppins not expecting a few weird set pieces, you’re watching for the wrong reasons. But weird in the sense that... I’m not entirely sure if it’s a good film. It’s certainly engaging enough, and it has a few cards up its sleeve, but generally, I’m not sure if it was the right movie for me to review.
Lewis WilsonPublished 5 years ago in GeeksThe McGuffin Problem
We’ve all heard of it before, the plot device, the McGuffin, or the Deux Ex Machina. It’s that one story element that the protagonists are searching for, trying to activate, kill for, or even destroy. But in the end, it ultimately serves one purpose, to move the story forward.
Jose GabrielPublished 5 years ago in GeeksWant to Keep Your New Year's Resolution? Watch ‘BoJack Horseman’
The fifth season of Netflix’s BoJack Horseman forced me to change my life. I finished watching the latest version of the show in October. Thus, while everyone else is making their resolutions—which we seldom accomplish—I’m a few weeks ahead and holding my own. I haven’t rewatched the series yet, but playing it in my head continues to motivate me to live better. It can encourage you, too, but probably for all the wrong reasons.
Alex CaseyPublished 5 years ago in Geeks'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' Review
Alright, let’s start 2019 as we mean to go on—let’s talk about movies more regularly, now! I just got back from seeing a couple of movies today and, as some of you requested, I figured I might as well start making proper reviews, now! So, for this episode, let’s talk about a film I now wish I’d got to see earlier; Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse. I hadn’t heard a bad word said about this film before I saw it, so this film definitely had high expectations to fill and, for the most part, Spider-verse excelled.
Lewis WilsonPublished 5 years ago in GeeksKilling DC Heroes
For years people have given the "I don't want to kill people" hero mentality a lot of flack in DC comics, considering it's a type practically pioneered by Batman. It's always used in comparison to Marvel, showing how DC supers are more morally grey, or they’re cowards, etc. I think the issue is really the type of villains they face, and how that influences their stance on ever killing someone.
E.A. ForsterPublished 5 years ago in GeeksTexxx-Man Cosplay's Best Cosplay Interviews of 2018
I know it's been a while since I've written an article. Been busy with work and other things. Excited for the Christmas break to take a few days off to have time for myself. There's less than two weeks until we say goodbye to 2018, but before we do, I'm here to feature some of the cosplayers I have interviewed this year who have been making a difference in the cosplay community. I've interviewed over a dozen of them, but I chose a few who I believe go above and beyond of what they do.
Mark Wesley PritchardPublished 5 years ago in GeeksThe Visual Language of 'A Star Is Born'
Bradley Cooper is the surprise of the season with his remarkable direction of A Star Is Born. The challenge he set for himself on his first time out behind the camera was daunting to say the least. Not only is Cooper directing himself in the lead role, he’s directing a non-actress, Lady Gaga, in the other lead role. He also had massive logistics to tend to with crowds, music, and stadiums where conditions—we can easily imagine—that were not always conducive to a director desperately trying to capture a needed moment.
Sean PatrickPublished 5 years ago in GeeksAnd the Best 'Jurassic Park' Movie Is...
I'm not the first person to do a list like this and I'm probably not going to be the last but today I re-watched The Lost World: Jurassic Park for the first time in around 15 years and I've now seen all the Jurassic Park movies in 2018 so it felt appropriate to make my own list ranking them from worst to best.
Danielle MurrayPublished 5 years ago in Geeks15 Disney Locations I Wish Were Real
There are many amazing places in this world—but of course, as human beings, we want what we can't have. I've made a list of 15 places from Disney movies that I wish I could go to, but unfortunately, I cant.
Tone BreistrandPublished 5 years ago in Geeks8 Films that Shouldn't Be Remade
I've seen a few remakes that I've enjoyed and a few that I've outright hated. It seems like every other film that hits the cinemas nowadays is a remake of an earlier, better film.
Greg SeebregtsPublished 5 years ago in GeeksThe Reason Why Tuxedo Mask Was Never Targeted for Heart Crystal
If you are a fan of the series Sailor Moon, most likely you have seen all of the seasons. Do you remember the story of the third arc? Yes, I mean Sailor Moon S. An evil organization calling themselves "Death Busters" are after pure heart crystals in hope to find the three talismans.
'Instant Family' Is an Incredibly Funny Movie with a Great Story
For the first time ever, you guys are getting a review of a film that hasn't come out yet. A few days ago, I was able to snag a ticket to an advance screening of the movie, Instant Family, and I decided to go. I walked a mile to the theater, got there extra early so that I could get a good seat, waited in the cold for an hour and a half, and got inside.
