From the minds behind "Broad City", Ilana Glazer and Paul W. Downs have developed a new mini-series for Comedy Central, set to premiere April 20, 2016. The series is set to be a three-part series, airing the following days after the premiere on April twentieth. Directed by Lucia Aniello, "Time Traveling Bong" centers on two cousins, played by Ilana Glazer and Paul Downs, who discover a time-traveling bong and ride high as they blaze through time. Their buzz is killed when the bong breaks and the cousins are forced to bounce around the space time continuum, learning to appreciate there’s no time like the present.

Comedy Central's Mini-Series Time Traveling Bong.

Yes, there is a series about a time traveling bong coming to cable television. Comedy Central has been known for their eccentrically focused programming and "Time Traveling Bong" is no different. The concept may be reminiscent of the "Hot-Tub Time Machine"(2010) film wherein a group of friends fall into a hot-tub time machine and travel to a past period of their lives. "Time Traveling Bong" differs a bit in it's core concept. From what Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson told the EW in their interview, Glazer's character along with Downs' character will be bounced around time and space after their unintentional toke of the 'time traveling bong' sends them to a period in time wherein they are forced to bounce from time period to time period to get back home. The trailer for the mini-series appears to have the two main characters enjoying their time abroad, as well as getting into hi-jinks on their journey home. However, it seems as though Glazer and Downs will be stuck in a past time period as their bong is broken. The focal point of the mini-series is likely going to see the two main characters played by Glazer and Downs respectively, finding a new method to travel through time. Getting stuck in a past time period usually doesn't work for time travelers in movies and television series, which means the two are going to have to find a new method to return home when their bong is destroyed. Just like most of the content related to "Broad City", Glazer and Downs have made the next popular mini-series for the stoner demographic everywhere. It definitely corresponds to the stereotypical stoner comedy to be marketed to the demographic. The new Comedy Central mini-series is going to attract the target audience as it also premieres on a date associated with the sub-genre tagged to "Time Traveling Bong". The mini-series is only a three part compilation of the two main characters traversing time and space, and most likely won't expand into further series but is definitely going to be good for a laugh or two while it lasts. The minds behind "Broad City" haven't disappointed with their works so far, and this new mini-series is another installment for them to cement their status as new comedy staples on the widely known television network, Comedy Central.

In terms of storylines that Comedy Central didn't approve of, there was one in particular which didn't go over so well. The story line consisted of a young Hillary Clinton waiting for a young Bill Clinton to take her out on their first date. But Bill ends up getting 'high' and forgets to pick up Hillary for their date.

Comedy Central, the network run by Viacom Incorporated could have had a variety of reasons for why they didn't approve of the skit involving a young Bill and Hillary Clinton. For one, the idea could have been shot down because of the politically charged climate we live in; it probably isn't the best idea to emphasize currently relevant politicians, whom seek the approval of all audiences to gain support in their campaigns. Though the idea could have been shot down for mere conflict of interest, wherein Viacom or another partnered business entity is a proponent for Hillary Clinton. In which negative publicity on the Comedy Central network would have unforeseeable repercussions on Hillary Clinton's image. We probably won't get to know why the idea was shot down, despite the topic being of an interesting matter to discuss.

Answers during the Q&A Session. Ilana Glazer chimes in.

When the Q&A session returned to Ilana Glazer for more comments, the question was posed, as to why the team behind "Time Traveling Bong" love stoner humor so. And Ilana Glazer responded simply by noting how much she loves weed. The young actress hadn't opened up about the topic before, but the presumption was always made by fans in which Ilana Glazer seemed to be an authentic, stoner friendly actress. There are quite a few known actors and actresses that support the use of marijuana who also play roles in television and cinema wherein their characters are associated with marijuana in one way or another. However, there is the occasional actor/actress whom can portray an advocate for marijuana despite not being an actual user or advocate. For instance, most stoners are familiar with the comedy duo 'Cheech and Chong' played by Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. The duo has been known since the 1980's for their iconic stoner lifestyle comedies, but one fact that very few fans of the duo are keen on is that actor-comedian, Cheech Marin is not an advocate for marijuana. He may play the role of a stoner heavy individual in a movie or television program but he's not an actual advocate of marijuana. Cheech's partner, Tommy Chong on the other hand has been known since his start in comedy as a heavy pothead. Tommy Chong has also been a large influence as a proponent for the use of medical marijuana for decades, he's even had a type of cancer wherein treatment using marijuana has helped him recover from the illness.

Ilana Glazer seems to match the Tommy Chong type of acting comedian, when it comes to stoner friendly advocates. And from what the recent reports are indicating, is that the Comedy Central network likes Ilana Glazer's brand of stoner humor and are decidedly going to back her in the "Time Traveling Bong" mini-series, as well as in possible future projects. However, the opportunity for Ilana Glazer, Lucia Aniello, and Paul W. Downs to put together the mini-series for Comedy Central might be to test if they have the chops to hang on the exclusive Comedy Central network. And if they succeed, there could be plenty more projects down the line for Ilana Glazer and her team from "Broad City". )
