‘The Young and the Restless’ viewers disapprove of Abby’s baby storyline

Fans don’t think the writers should be taking Devon, Mariah, and Nina down this bizarre path.

Viewers of ‘The Young and the Restless’ are overwhelmingly disappointed with the current storyline surrounding Abby Newman. Most fans find the entire situation bizarre. First, Abby is unable to have a baby and then Chance cannot produce sperm. Mariah decides to become Abby's surrogate and they write her husband out of the storyline and have her living alone in the Chancellor mansion. Chance writes a letter telling his wife to go ahead and proceed with having a child through a sperm donor, and then Nina says she is excited about becoming a grandmother.

Now Devon is considering becoming the sperm donor and both viewers and spoilers disagree with this storyline. The entire scenario is just too out there and that's no disrespect to anyone who has used a sperm donor to have a child. This situation on The Young and the Restless seems borrowed from the real life experience of Melissa Etheridge and Julie Cypher. When the two were still a couple they decided to have children and Jan Crosby, the wife of singer David Crosby volunteered her spouse. he agreed and Etheridge and Julie became the parents of a daughter, Bailey, in 1997 and a son Beckett in 1998. Sadly Beckett died in May of 2020 from a drug overdose.

Soap fans are used to bizarre storylines like space aliens, weird science fiction experiments, and dead characters returning to life. This situation, however, just seems wrong on so many levels. Devon lost his baby when Hilary died and many believe he should have a child of his own before giving one away. Mariah carrying a baby that belongs to Chance and Abby is one thing, but Devon being the biological father would create all kinds of conflict. Viewers will remember that Chelsea signed away her rights to Johnny and allowed Victoria and Billy to adopt him. Not long ago, however, she was trying to find a way back into the child's life.

Could Devon look at Mariah's growing belly and not feel something for the child she is carrying? Can he really hand that baby over to Abby and Chance without any type of emotional attachment? Essentially this would be Abby having a baby with Devon, although the majority who watch The Young and the Restless may not see it that way. Could Chance love this child as his own knowing that the real father is right there in Genoa City?

A majority of those who watch The Young and the Restless are angry that Chance was written out of the show. Some viewers believe that if and when he returns, it will be Justin Gaston in the role rather than Donny Boaz. Gaston is the real life husband of Melissa Ordway who portrays Abby and he stepped into the role during the wedding because Boaz had COVID. Some viewers thought the chemistry between the couple was so genuine that they were hoping Gaston would remain in the role. He has said that he would not mind returning to daytime television but no one knows if Y&R will bring him back.

What is known is that Nina and Abby are living in the Chancellor mansion at this time and planning a baby without knowing when Chance will return. Fans wanted to see the couple enjoy married life because Abby deserves some happiness. Her every relationship has failed and it looked like this time she found the man of her dreams. Instead, the writers have introduced this storyline that no one is enjoying.

Some viewers have been wondering why Abby chose Mariah as her maid of honor and how suddenly they became so close? Mariah had been best pals with Kyle and become close with Lola. Abby was not really good friends with any females in Genoa City. The writers must have a reason for all of this drama but many fans are hoping they will not follow through with Devon becoming the sperm donor. Stay tuned to find out how all of this is going to play out.
