'The Young and the Restless' Shocker—Theo Kicks Summer to the Curb

During the past few months spoilers for The Young and the Restless as well as many viewers have offered scenarios of what was going to happen now that Theo has been identified as Dina's grandson. Some believed he would go to Paris to work with Ashley, others suggested he might hook up with Lola although the chances of that seem slim. Most people thought that he might catch Summer with Kyle or that she would simply dump him. Last week Ms. Newman seemed annoyed that her boyfriend wanted to flirt on the job and did not seem to be taking things seriously.

Things got tense and Theo asked who was criticizing him, Summer the boss or Summer the girlfriend? Phyllis and Nick’s daughter tried to downplay her comments but the damage was done. Theo realized that the woman he has been spending so much time with did not believe in him. On Wednesday's episode, however, the writers flipped the script. They came out of left field with a move that neither spoilers nor viewers saw coming. Theo abruptly ended things with Summer who was clearly caught off guard.

Theo began talking about needing more space and Summer asked of he were suggesting they move in together. She pointed out that this would have them together 24/7 without a chance to miss each other. Theo then dropped the bomb that he had been thinking for some time that they need to take a step back. He said he did not want to mess up this opportunity at Jabot and also did not want anyone thinking his rise to power was because of his relationship with Summer, who looked completely blown away. Theo added that he needed to be all in and able to focus fully on his work assignment. Summer asked if he were breaking up with her and that is where the scene ended. This turns the tables on Ms. Newman who believed she was controlling the narrative in the relationship. She was moving slowly and carefully as if not desiring to hurt her lover’s feelings and she ended up being hit with a sucker punch.

Up until Monday's episode of The Young and the Restless, there had been no indication that Theo was having these feelings of doubt about the relationship. His exchange with Summer came out of left field so now the question is what is comes next? Without Theo in the picture Summer can focus on her new position as marketing manager. She might also give extra attention to Kyle which will anger Lola when she finds out. If Theo is intent on making things work at his family company and stepping back from Summer, then he certainly should not be interested in his cousin's wife. The playboy may indeed have had a change of heart but will his cousin Kyle believe it? Soaps She Knows say that Kyle will be celebrating success this week, but gave no indication as to what his victory will be. Perhaps it has something to do with his cousins new attitude.

Spoiler alerts have been promising that Kyle and Summer would get back together for months but so far there is no indication that this will happen. Now that Theo has decided to give his full attention to his job, Jack will no doubt be pleased and believe he made a wise choice in hiring his nephew. This storyline has had more twists and turns and spoilers that did not pan out. Shortly after Kyle dumped Summer the rumor mill said both she and Lola were going to be pregnant and it did not happen. Kyle was supposed to have some type of epiphany regarding his first wife on Halloween and that did not work out either.

Spoilers suggested that Skyle would be heating up the boardroom by spending lots of time together but lately they have not had much time on screen together. Summer is headstrong but vulnerable. She may wallow in self pity and wonder why men dump her. First Luca married under false pretenses, and never really loved her. Kyle followed suit, promising her one year but abruptly ended the marriage to chase Lola. Now Theo has kicked her to the curb and this may cause serious problems. Summer might find herself crying on Kyle’s should and one thing could lead to another. Before ardent Skyle fans give up, they should consider that spoilers predicted an Adam return at many junctures and after close to three years it finally happened. Stay tuned because this storyline is about to become very interesting.
