Fans of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS have been perplexed as to why Devon Hamilton volunteered to be the sperm donor for Chance and Abby. At first glance, this entire scenario seems absolutely crazy. Abby has scar tissue and Chance has a low sperm count so neither of them can contribute to producing a child. This sounded absurd to many viewers who began complaining about the storyline.

Marriah who is Abby's friend volunteered to be the surrogate mother and Devon who once dated both Abby and Marriah decided to donate his sperm. Chance left town on a secret mission but his mother Nina has moved into the Chancellor mansion to oversee the birth of her grandchild. Kevin ad Chloe had to find somewhere else to live and this perplexed those who watch the CBS soap.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS viewers have been so focused on the trees that they have missed the forest which is the bigger picture to this chaos. Phillip Chancellor IV carries the family name of his father, but he is not related by blood the Katherine Chancellor who was the matriarch and grand dame of Genoa City. It's obvious to be now, that the writers want to carry on the legacy created by the late Jeannie Cooper.

Devon's decision unites his family with other key Genoa City clans

Phillip Jr. left Katherine for Jill who gave birth to their son Phillip III who married Nina who had Phillip IV, AKA Chance. There is no blood relationship between Chance and Kay Chancellor but Devon Hamilton is Katherine's true grandson. Her long lost son Tucker McCall is Devon's father which makes him a true heir to Katherine's legacy. It's not clear why the writers have ignored Makenzie who is the daughter of Katherine's son Brock and just as much a Chancellor as Devon.,

Abby Newman marrying Chance, and their baby being sired by Devon and carried by Marriah was actually a stroke of genius. This move connects all the important Genoa City families together in a way they were not before. There have always been marriages and children with the Newmans and Abbotts but this time it is different. Devon is Katherine's grandson, as well as Neil's adopted son. Abby is the daughter of Victor Newman and Ashley Abbott, Mariah is Sharon's daughter, and Chance is Jill's grandson.

Abby's baby will connect most of Genoa City

The child that is soon to be born will be blood-related to Katherine Chancellor and Jill who was a Foster and they were one of the original families on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. This is fitting considering the mother-daughter relationship between Jill and Kay and how far back their history goes. This boy or girl will also have blood that is both Newman and Abbott and will symbolically be the grandson of the late Neil Winters and Nina who is Chance's mother will be the legal grandma.

This ties just about all of the legacy Genoa Families together by blood, marriage, or legalities. Viewers have been pondering this situation that seemed pretty ridiculous in the beginning but now it all makes sense. Now it seems logical that Abby and Chance moved into the Chancellor mansion because their child will be the great-grandson or daughter of Jeannie Cooper's legendary character. There are a lot of choices the writers make that do not make sense to the viewing audience, but this time there clearly is a method to the madness. Now if only Abby's husband would return in time for the birth of his child.
