Farewell Dina

On December 25, The Young and the Restless will rebroadcast their Christmas Eve episode from 2019. This was one of the last lucid moments for Dina Mergeron who recently passed away from Alzheimer’s disease. Marla Adams’s did a wonderful job of portraying the Abbott family matriarch as she dealt with the deadly illness. Numerous fans of the CBS daytime drama said the way Dina’s situation played out was just like that of loved ones they had who died from this form of Dementia. Last Christmas, Dina was just sitting and no longer recognizing her family members.

Abbott family

The Abbotts were gathered at home for the holiday and Ashley was in town from Paris. Jack, and Abby were there also when Tracy, (Beth Maitland) began singing O Come All Ye Faithful. The rest of the Abbotts joined in as Dina continued to sit. When they got to the chorus of “ Oh Come Let Us Adore Him” Dina suddenly stood up and began singing along. As the song ended with “ Christ the Lord”, Dina waved her hands in the air and sang a little louder. Her family was amazed and this was the Christmas miracle for the Abbotts. Naturally not every Y&R fan observes the December 25 holiday yet there was an overwhelming positive response to this episode and no negative feedback.

Jack

On social media many viewers said they were moved by the scene where Dina snaps out of her stupor and can recall the lyrics to the Christmas Carol. There were quite a few fans who said they were in tears. Some shared their own experiences with parents who were dealing with Alzheimers’s disease. There were those who currently were in that situation and others whose loved ones had already passed away. If you enjoy watching television shows that tug on the heartstrings during the holidays then you will want to tune in to The Young and the Restless on Friday.

Ashley

It was really touching to see how far the Abbotts had come with all the family drama in their lives. Dina had walked out on her husband and children years before and went off to do her own thing. Ashley later found out that John Abbott was not her biological father. Jack used this against his sister to remove her from the CEO position at Jabot. Ashley later got revenge by causing her brother to think that John Abbott was not his father but it was revealed that this was all a trick. Traci I s the only one who remains stable and she tries to keep her family together.

Traci

According to Showbiz 411, The Young and the Restless has lost over 800,00 viewers since returning to the air after the COVID shutdown. On social media the number one complaint is that the show is not doing justice by veteran characters like Michael, Paul, Lauren, Chris, Kevin and Chloe. Viewers are tired of Adam’s antics, angry that Daniel Goddard, (Cane Ashby) was let go and hated the storyline about Devon’s inheritance being stolen. There has also been an outcry over the treatment of Foug Davidson who portrays Paul Williams. He is brought back for one or two episodes then not seen again for months.

Abby

Viewers have complained and even signed petitions for over 2 years but nothing has changed. Head writer Josh Griffith promised a return to the glory days of Genoa City but loyal fans are still waiting. There is also the fact that soap opera’s began when most women were housewives and would shush you when their “stories” came on. Decades ago there were only 3 major television networks and now there are more options with cable and Satalite TV. There are only 4 remaining soaps and they need to change some things before they are history.

Kyle

The Abbotts recently said goodbye to Dina’s grandson Theo who caused a lot of problems but moved to Paris to run some of the family boutiques. Kyle Summer and Jack are all on guard because of Lauren’s new assistant Sally Spectra who might cause more trouble than Theo ever could. This Christmas will be different for the family but they are strong and will be alright. Make sure to tune in after the holidays to find out what’s next for Dina’s family.
