Detective Taggert is back

Last week on General Hospital a man who was a thorn in the side of Sonny Corinthos for many years returned to Port Charles. Viewers saw a glimpse of him on Thursday, and on Friday his identity was revealed. When Sonny went to Turning Woods to visit his father, he found an unwanted blast from his past that he was not expecting. Jason was also stunned to come face to face with an old enemy who was thought to be long gone.

Detective Marcus Taggert has returned to Port Charles after a 17 year absence and his first scene was trying to glean information from Mike Corbin who has dementia. Sonny walked in on him standing over his dad and the two men had a few words. When Jason came in, Tagget made sarcastic remarks to him about the way he always remains silent. It has been close to two decades and the police detective is still harassing the former mob boss and his family It will be interesting to find out what Taggerts ulterior motive is.

For fans who have forgotten this character or those who were not watching General Hospital back in the day,, Soaps She Knows has provided everything you need to know about this controversial individual by the name of Marcus Taggert. For those who were part of the viewing audience when the detective was in Port Charles? this will be a trip down memory lane and bring back characters and situations that have long been forgotten.

Marcus Taggert first showed up in Port Charles in 1996. His back story is that he was a trouble maker who grew up in Brooklyn and was befriended by Sonny's abusive stepfather, Deke Woods. Taggert admired his mentor so much that he decided to go into the same field and become a police officer. When Deke was shot to death, Marcus blamed Sonny and set about making the life of the mob boss miserable. He joined the PCPD and became a detective and hid issues with Sonny caused him problems on the job on more than one occasion.

Taggert thought very highly of Sonny's then wife Lily and blamed her husband when she died as a result of a car bomb meant for him. Taggert then became a guardian to Lily’s son Juan Santiago. whose biological father’s name was Marcus. The detective dated Hannah Scott, who was one of Sonny’s ex girlfriends and was also involved with Dara Jensen. Taggert’s half sister Gia Campbell was once involved with Nikolas Cassadine. I’m sure there are viewers who don’t even recall these characters or storylines from so long ago.

Detective Marcus Taggert was known to look the other way when it came to his sibling. He did nothing at all when he found out Gia was helping crazy Helena Cassadine, who was a fugitive at the time. He covered for his sister when it was revealed that she was responsible for sn accident involving Elizabeth Webber. When the detective questioned Scott Baldwin's unethical manner of dealing with Sonny, Scott forced Taggert to move to Portland, Oregon and he had not been seen or heard of until last week.Viewers know that the detective is back in Port Charles because Jordan called him. What is not clear is why he was harassing Mike and what his connection to the police officer is. Jordan has been frustrated because she can't solve the case of Sonny's coffee truck that was set on fire. Perhaps she and Marcus have worked together before and she needs assistance on the case. Is Taggert related to Curtis Ashford’s wife, or is he a threat who could be a possible love interest. Stay tuned to find out.
