Paul and Chance catch up

Doug Davidson fans will finally get a glimpse of their favorite character Paul Williams on the next episode of The Young and the Restless. The original air date for this program was supposed to be Friday December 20. The impeachment hearings, however, have thrown everything off so it may not be shown until Monday or Tuesday. In this episode Paul shows up at the coffee house and has a chat with Chance. Doug Davidson looks really great in his suit and tie and it’s a pleasure to see him again. The actor was rehired on a recurring basis but has only been seen sporadically since. Spoiler alerts indicate that next week, Paul and Christine will double date with Michael and Lauren. Fenmore Baldwin is supposed to return to Genoa City for the holidays but because of the delays, he might not be seen until after Christmas.

Viewers have expressed their desire to see more of these fan favorites and less of Adam, Chelsea and Amanda. Time will tell if the writers pay attention and give these veteran actors something to work with. In the upcoming episode, Chance talks to Paul about spending Christmas with his mom Nina. Nothing has been said about Tricia Cast rejoining The Young and the Restless, so this could always take place off screen. Chance also shares with the police chief that he is thinking about leaving undercover work behind. He says he does not enjoy pretending to be someone else and just wants to be himself. Agent Chancellor then adds that he is considering becoming a private detective, something that Paul once did pretty well.

The conversation was brief and before you know it Paul is putting on his coat and heading back out the door. Doug Williams deserves to be treated better than appearing once in a while as if he is giving a cameo performance. If the new writing team really wants to bring back the glory days in Genoa City, they need to utilize all of the veteran characters. Right now Phyllis and her shenanigans are taking up a lot of air time and viewers are saying on social media that they don’t like it. What is the point of having these talented men and women as a part of the cast if they are not utilized?

Next week when Paul, Chris, Lauren and Michael hang out, viewers should let the powers that be know they want more. The fans proved they have power when their voices brought Doug Williams back and Mal Young was let go. Josh Griffith must be held accountable and deliver what he promised. There is so much more for Paul than arresting the bad guys and always coming to Nikki Newman’s defense. A stellar, 50 year veteran like Doug Davidson should be utilized to the fullest. Paul and Rey could work together on a high profile case or there could be some conflict with the police chief and his wife. It’s the job of the writers to give fans what will keep them tuned in and it should not be that difficult to write suitable material.

Longtime viewers are paying close attention and commenting on social media sites including Facebook groups. They are tired of the shows being delayed and want the veteran characters to get a fair shake. Even Victor and Nikki are not doing much these days except lounging at the Ranch. They may have their hands full soon as spoiler alerts indicate that Faith will return and will be a handful. Along with her cousin Conner, she will keep the Newmans on their toes.

Right now The Young and the Restless seems focused on Kyle, Summer, Lola, and Theo when Adam, Amanda and Phyllis are not on screen. Paul does not have ties with any of them, but a great storyline could come forth from the encounter between the Baldwins and the Williams. When Doug Davidson first returned to the CBS daytime drama, Paul and Chris had lunch together in Chancellor Park and fans were hopeful, but the couple disappeared off the map. Be sure to tune in weekday afternoons on CBS at 12:30 PM EST. Keep in mind that episodes are a day or two off.
