Plagiarism on Vocal

I've seen several plagiarized stories on Vocal and it is driving me bonkers.

By all means, take inspiration from authors, but you cannot copy and paste a story and pass it as your own. And stealing someone's idea or concept also counts as plagiarism.

That's not okay.

Not okay

Please support creativity. There are so many good ideas just waiting for you to stumble on them. Get out a notebook and brainstorm some ideas! I bet you'll be surprised by what you come up with.

Do not, under any circumstances, plagiarize someone's ideas or story, whether word for word or altered slightly.

And there are steps readers can take to undermine plagiarism as well!

First is to make sure that the awesome story you're reading isn't plagiarized. Look it up in the search bar. Plagiarizers aren't the brightest bulbs. I've never seen someone plagiarize a story and change the title.

Second, if it is plagiarized, report the story. Just click on the flag and click plagiarism.

Third, tell everyone that the story is plagiarized in the comments. The plagiarized story's likes will go down like the Titanic. Most people know that plagiarism is not cool.

Fourth, go and support the original creator. This can be simply liking and sharing, or it can be subscribing and leaving a tip. You can also let them know that their story has been plagiarized. And if you give them positive feedback, that will help so much! I love getting positive comments on my stories. 🥰 We all do!

Vocal Team, if you are reading this, please don't just click approve on every story you see. Please check each story thoroughly and make sure they're not plagiarized. I wouldn't rely too heavily on readers to report these stories.

Another problem I have noticed is AI-generated stories. These are disappointing to read and readers don't even have to be genius to tell that AI wrote it. If it is bone dry of original ideas and description, that immediately raises a red flag. Please screen stories carefully to make sure that they're not AI-generated.

I am afraid that there is not much we readers can do about AI-generated stories. The most we can do is not support the writer by not liking, subscribing, or sharing the stories. And please, please do not comment.

If you comment something nice, that will encourage them. You guys commenting nice stuff on my stories makes me feel awesome!! If you comment something mean, that will hurt their feelings. And yeah, we don't want them spewing AI-Generated junk all over Vocal (pardon the alliteration), but we also need to remain civil.

---

Please don't support AI-Generated stories or plagiarized stories. Support creativity. It makes the world a more diverse, fun place. Imagine if we all wrote a Harry Potteresque book. Then we would only have books about wizard schools and nothing else, and yeah, it's an awesome concept and I love Harry Potter, but we would all get so bored of it.

Humans need variety. No matter how much we claim we hate change, we would get so bored if everything was the same all the time! Imagine all the girls were blond with blue eyes and were named Suzie and all the boys had black hair and brown eyes and were all named Harry.

Ugh, kill me already.

Not supporting AI-Generated stories promotes creativity for obvious reasons. If we relied on AI to write us stuff, then we would have no creativity, thus everything we write would be terrible!!

---

Thank you all for reading!! I love y'all! Please drop a like and subscribe if you haven't already. Share and comment, what is your stance on developing AI further? And please no arguing in the comments. Until next time!! 🥰😘

Thank you for saying it! I’m so tired of seeing plagiarism on here. Ridiculous.

On Plagiarism- no excuses- stealing is stealing just like shop lifting. Both are being demoted as lesser offenses across the world. On A.I., we have ourselves to blame in many ways. As examples we have accepted the assistance of autocorrect, Grammarly’s, Autocrit’s, Alexa, Sirii, self driving cars, etc etc. And we shouldn’t be shocked as we are the frog in the pot with temperature being slowly raised. My position on A.I. is that it should be mandatory to fully disclose if used to generate creative works and critiqued separately from organic writing. Great article Cezanne. 🥰

I am wondering about the use of AI here (sometimes it is very obvious), but I am not so sure about the plagiarism.
