They're Back!!!!

Saturday mornings are back

METV is starting the new year off with a bang by bringing back classic Saturday morning cartoons. Beginning Saturday, January 2, a 3 hour block of some of the most beloved animation ever can be seen. Comic and actor Bill Leff will be the host for the cartoons of your childhood. METV says one of their biggest request from fans is to bring back Saturday morning cartoons. There is nothing like a television network that actually listens to the people who support it. I personally have been noticing that the cartoons my grandchildren watch just are not the same as those my husband and I and our children grew up with.

One of my sons and I had been discussing for quite a while how Saturday morning cartoons are missed and needed. On Thanksgiving Day and the following weekend, Boomerang held a marathon of classics which included Wacky Races, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Top Cat, Magilla Gorilla and more. Baby Boomers, (those born between 1948-1964) grew up in an era of only the 3 broadcast networks. Each had a lineup on Saturday mornings of popular cartoons. Our children watched the very same shows and they are truly missed.

Over the decades the quality of animation has declined and new versions of the old favorites just are not working. I have talked to a number of parents and grandparents who have been yearning for the days of animation gone by. The new Looney Tunes show and Tom and Jerry show are missing the talent of Chuck Jones and the voice of Mel Blanc which can never be duplicated. These wonderful old school cartoons are just what is needed to give us a great laugh and get our minds off of what is going on in the world. In addition to the Saturday morning lineup, the classics will also be airing on weekdays.

Tune in with me

In addition, METV Network is also introducing a new original morning program titled Toon In With Me. This one hour weekday series will feature the host Bill, along with original comedy sketches, interviews, games, special guests, and more. Bill will also be hit in the face with pies. This lead in was produced to precede many of the greatest classic cartoon shorts that have ever been created. Tune in with me can be viewed at 7:00 AM beginning Monday, January 4, 2021. Tune in with me has been specially designed to appeal to viewers of all ages.

Bill Leff and his cast will be centered around the timeless and beloved Warner Brothers cartoon superstars and you already know who they are. Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester and so many more from the many cartoons from Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies. As a bonus, the theatrical library from MGM shorts will also be a part of the show. These classics include Tom & Jerry, Droopy Dog and the Tex Avery catalog. There will also be original Popeye cartoons from Max Fleischer and more than 1,000 cartoons will be seen on MeTV. If you are excited about the classics making a comeback then please spread the good news.

Start your New Year off right with a dose of Bugs Bunny and his friends and you cannot go wrong. The world is turning so fast and furious we need some simple fun to make us laugh. Thank you METV for heeding the voice of your devoted viewers. Neal Sabin, vice chairman of Weigel Broadcasting said the following about the METV venture. "It will evoke the hosted children’s shows of decades past, blending nostalgia, fun, charm, comedy and cartoons, reimagined with new, original, live-action characters. It all adds up to a new program for viewers of all ages, ready to share the fun and positive energy together weekday mornings." I wholeheartedly agree!
