General Hospital recast opens up

Marcus Coloma was recast in the role of Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital on October 31, 2019. Some fans have not gotten over the fact that Tyler Christopher did not return to the role he originated and have a hard time accepting a differnt actor as the Cassadine prince. There are other viewers, however, who are enjoying the new Nik and his relationship with Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West).

Nikola and Ava seem to have found their good place together in spite of current interference from Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessey), Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chaves), and Esme Prince (Avery Pole). According to Columba, this art is not imitating his real life and he enlightened his followers during an interview on State of Mind with Maurice Benard who portrays Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital.

Marcus Coloma: His state of mind

Benard began the interview by saying that he and Coloma were good friends which is not the case for their General Hospital characters. Nikolas and Sonny both love Spencer but seem to stay at odds with each other. Coloma shared with Benard that when it came to real-time romance, he seemed to blow up his relationships with women. He told the State of Mind host the following: “There’s something about a girl and that closeness that man, I would go haywire,” he admitted. “I would self-sabotage.”

The handsome soap star said that he believes this is what he had done in his last two relationships and shared that he is very competitive and desires to be the best. Fans might think that having a major role on the ABC soap would give him confidence but Marcus said that it isn't that he believes no one is good enough for him, it's that he always feels as if he is not good enough for the women he dates.

Coloma said his attitude in relationships had been ‘You can’t fire me, I quit.’” and adds that his life has been a self-fulfilling prophecy because when you live life out of fear, the thing you fear tends to happen. He adds that now he is beginning to break his old habits and that it has taken him until now at 43 years of age to do so.

He was Matt Evans in South Beach on UPN, appeared as Marcus Johnson on The CW drama One Tree Hill, and was Hillary Duff's love interest in the film Material Girls.
