A Filmmaker's Guide to: Melodrama
In this chapter of ‘the filmmaker’s guide’ we’re actually going to be learning about literature and film together. I understand that many of you are sitting in university during difficult times and finding it increasingly hard to study and I understand that many of you who are not at university or not planning on it are possibly stuck of what to do, need a break or even need to catch up on learning film before you get to the next level. This guide will be brief but will also contain: new vocabulary, concepts and theories, films to watch and we will be exploring something taboo until now in the ‘filmmaker’s guide’ - academia (abyss opens). Each article will explore a different concept of film, philosophy, literature or bibliography/filmography etc. in order to give you something new to learn each time we see each other. You can use some of the words amongst family and friends to sound clever or you can get back to me (email in bio) and tell me how you’re doing. So, strap in and prepare for the filmmaker’s guide to film studies because it is going to be one wild ride.
Annie KapurPublished 4 years ago in GeeksKristen Alphonso shares final air date with fans of ‘Days of Our Lives’
Soap Central has the scoop on what’s really going on with actress Kristen Alfonso. The veteran daytime actress shared here final airdate on Days of Our Lives and the reason she is leaving the show after 37 years. Alfonso has portrayed Hope Williams Brady for close to 4 decades and her character is a staple in Salem, as well as beloved by fans. Those who were expecting a big sendoff for Hope will be sadly disappointed. Kristen filmed her final scenes prior to the coronavirus and there was not enough time to give her a proper goodbye because of the timing of when she was leaving. The final air date is expected to be October 14, so fans have less than two weeks to enjoy Hope in Salem.
Cheryl E PrestonPublished 4 years ago in GeeksIdeas on Moff Gideon’s background
Moff Gideon is a striking character. Many of us ask: How did he came to be? How did he achieve access to the darksaber ? Is Giancarlo Esposito (his actor) alluding that he is in fact force sensitive?
Fulcrum TransmissionsPublished 4 years ago in GeeksThe Lost Female World of The Fairy Tale: ‘Beauty and The Beast’
I have been wanting to write about Beauty and The Beast (La Belle et la Bête) fairy tale and its recent adaptation Beauty and The Beast (2017) for some time now. There are two reasons for my wish to do so. The first one – I liked the 2017 adaptation of the fairy tale. The second – some years ago, I came across the original fairy tale, La Belle et la Bête, as it was written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve in 1740 and it opened my eyes to some fundamentals of the story that I have not been aware of before.

When the news broke on March 29th, 2019 that Agnès Varda had passed away at age 90 from cancer, the film world mourned, but I did not. I recognized the name of course, but had I seen any of her films? As it turned out, actually yes. About 18 months prior, I had enjoyed an obscure documentary called Faces Places; I remembered it being very cute, and that the old woman’s hairstyle was quite strange. So that was that, and I moved on. It would be over a year until I, too, mourned the loss of one of the greatest, most important filmmakers to ever live.
MovieBabblePublished 4 years ago in GeeksMy Review of "Vampires Vs. The Bronx"
Vampires Vs. The Bronx just came out and I was excited to see it. I'm all about these hokey kid adventure movies probably because of my fond memories of the Goonies. Movies about rag tag gang of kids saving the day is pretty popular now. Probably because everyone else has fond memories of the Goonies as well.
Brian AnonymousPublished 4 years ago in GeeksA Film Addict Reviews! Baahubali: The Beginning
Over the past year, I’ve been trying to branch out my movie selection by drifting away from the western films I’ve grown up on and watch more of the eastern selection. I started out with some Hong Kong films and those were decent in themselves but I’ve never gone Bollywood until I saw a gif over men being catapulted off a palm tree, rolling up into a barrel and fall down completely unharmed. I knew right then and there, I needed to see whatever film this was and that’s how I found out about Baahubali!

Margaret MinnicksPublished 4 years ago in GeeksThe Reel Sisters
The Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings is a book about a group of women from different walks of life and different ages come together to fly fish and socialize. They teach each other how to fish as well as give each other advice. It is almost like a book club full of women but instead of reading they catch and release fish in order to unwind and relax. They also meet a mysterious stranger on one of their fishing trips but in order to leave out spoilers I won’t go into further details of the new woman added to their little group.
TangerinehippiestudiosPublished 4 years ago in GeeksThe Problematic 'Cool Girl' Trope
When thinking about gender representation in the media a myriad of stereotypes come to mind, most of which communicate ideals of gender that perpetuate unrealistic and limiting perceptions of who we should be. One such trope worth exploring is the ‘Cool Girl’ trope, which is more than just a fictional stereotype played on screen. An article by Jason Hellerman aptly refers to this trope as a “Real Life Fantasy, Screenwriting Nightmare”.
Simran Lavanya SarafPublished 4 years ago in GeeksThe Broken Hearts Gallery Review: A Lighthearted Rom-Com With Small But Forgivable Issues
Spoiler Free So, this movie is was the first one I got to go watch at a theatre in a long time, a drive-thru, but still counts. My fiance and I got our camping chairs, Icee, and popcorn and were so excited just to watch a new release live. This also comes with an interesting perspective because just being able to go out and watch a movie again gives me rose-colored glasses while reviewing this, but I'm going to take those off and give you an honest opinion.
