Julie Berman continues to shine.

Julie Berman just the facts

General Hospital viewers have not heard much about actress Julie Berman since she departed from the ABC daytime drama. Some fans had hoped that she would return to the role but that never happened and Berman seems to be doing quite well since she was last seen on daytime television. Although she has not obtained any roles that compare to her GH character the actress has remained somewhat busy.

Julie Marie Berman was born on November 3, 1983, and was a child actor from the age of 6. She portrayed Shelby Conner in 7th Heaven and also appeared in Once and Again and ER. Berman graduated from the University of Southern California in May 2006 with a bachelor's degree in Television and Cinema and is a member of the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Berman is best known for her role as Leslie Lu Spencer on the ABC daytime drama General Hospital. Lulu is the daughter of super couple Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) and Laura Spencer (Genie Francis). She was named for her father and her grandmother Leslie Webber (Denise Alexander).

General Hospital days and beyond

Berman began portraying the popular character of Leslie Lu Spencer in October of 2005 when Lulu was SORAS and she received her first Daytime Emmy nomination in 2007. While on General Hospital, the talented actress won her first Daytime Emmy in 2009 for Outstanding Younger Actress. She won a second Emmy in the same category in 2010 and also appeared in the spin-off series General Hospital Night Shift.

Lulu was a popular character who got into her fair share of trouble in her younger days but began to mature after marrying Dante Falconeri,(Dominic Zampragna) and having children. For reasons unknown, Berman decided to depart her role and leave her popular character behind. She announced in July of 2013 that she would not be renewing her General Hospital contract when it expired that November and walked away from her award-winning character.

On August 15, 2008, Berman married Michael Grady and the couple welcomed their first child a son Asher Dean Grady on February 18, 2019.

Julie Berman after General Hospital

ABC never made an announcement about the departure but recast the role with Emmie Rylan who had been portraying Abby Newman on The Young and the Restless. Reports at the time said Rylan was on recurring status and desired a contract role, so she left Genoa City for Port Charles. After leaving General Hospital Berman went on to portray a receptionist named Leia on the Hulu comedy series Casual.

The actress was also a guest-star on several prime-time comedy series including Jane the Virgin and Two and a Half Men. In 2015, she began a recurring role on the Hulu comedy series, Casual. During the second season Berman she became a series regular. Later in 2015, the actress joined the cast of the NBC medical drama Chicago Med, portraying Dr. Samantha "Sam" Zanetti. In 2014 she was Anna in the short Count to 10 and in 2017 she was in the film Valley of the Moon as Molly.

Emme Rylan replaced Berman as Lulu but she was abruptly let go from her role in 2020 and Lulu remains in a coma in an out of town facility. A number of General Hospital viewers as well as spoilers began saying that Berman might reprise her role but there is nothing at thsi time to indicate that this will happen. Be on the lookout for updates related to what's next for Julie Berman as well as her former character Lulu on General Hospital.
