Those who watch THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS have been waiting for the official word that Kyle and Summer are history on the CBS soap and now they have it. Skyle fans must now finally accept that their favorite couple is gone at least for now. There will be no wedding onscreen in Genoa City or Milan. It's a wrap for this popular couple who had so much more that could have been done with their story. Michael Mealor and Hunter King both recently talked with SOAP OPERA DIGEST during a Podcast and shared what is going on in their current situations.

They were candid but careful to not say anything that could be misconstrued as being negative. King has finally admitted that her days as Summer Newman are over at least for now. Mealor echoed his co-star by saying that Kyle is always coming and going from Genoa City and could be back one day. This was said 3 or 4 times so it seems there is hope for the future. Both actors said they loved the show, the cast, and the fans and added that contract negotiations can be tricky.

Neither gave any specific details or said anything to indicate there had been problems. The rumor mill, however, has implied that there were indeed problems but the actors themselves said nothing. in June spoilers began reporting that there was a high profile soap actress who was disgruntled with her job and on her way out. several names from the 4 remaining daytime shows were suggested and at this point. King is the only female who is leaving. The actress teased during the interview that Summer might be seen again but it's not clear if she meant in coming weeks or was referring to the future. You can listen to the Podcast by clicking on the following link.

Hunter has been portraying Summer off and on for 9 years while Michael has only been -playing Kyle for 3 years. The couple said they immediately liked each other and realized they had chemistry. The duo said they are in awe of the fans who have supported them as actors and also enjoyed Summer and Kyle together. Mealor said he was blown away by grandmothers watching his scenes with King together on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. I have a friend whose granddaughter enjoys the couple and watches with her.

King who admits she is an introvert said that she instantly felt a connection to Mealor and was relaxed around him. Mealor says he enjoyed the way Kyle and Summer seemed to have a love-hate relationship when Lola entered the picture but they always found their way back to each other. Hunter said she loved the Twitter wars between Skyle and Kola fans and Michael added that he enjoyed that the fans cared even though they were divided over which couple they supported.

Michael Mealor said that he did not judge Kyle for turning a blind eye to Tara because he decided that his character should latch onto Harrison and keep the focus on his son. Mealor added that he pursued Kyle's love for Harrison and blocked out Tara's manipulations. Both actors said they loved the scene where Kyle showed up in Milan and that it was a big moment. This was a favorite with the fans who somehow knew this would be the last love scene for Skyle.

King and Mealor wanted their characters to go off into the sunset for the many fans who supported them. Michael said he was glad Skyle got their happy ending. King said their last day, (for now) were bittersweet and that she almost cried. It sounds like King and Mealor are leaving the door open for a possible future return so perhaps there will be no recast. Mealor regrets that Kyle never had a close male friend and that he would have loved for him to be as close with Devon as he was Mariah.

A fan asked if he would ever consider another soap and Michael said that he is loyal to THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS but never say never. Another fan asked if Mealor and King were as close as they seem in photo's and the answer was a big yes. King said that she and Mealor are a package deal and joked that if one of them was hired the other had to be offered a job also. Neither actor indicated that they had anything lined up in the immediate future so be on the lookout for updates.
