Has The Young and the Restless retired Paul to Portugal for good?

There had been rumors that The Young and the Restless was going to kill off Paul Williams ( Doug Davidson) during the 50-year celebration but it looks like what they are doing is retiring him to Portugal. During recent episodes where Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell) was talking she mentioned that her husband had retired as the chief of police and had gone to Portugal to visit his daughter Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom) and granddaughter Lucy Romalotti ( Lilly Brooks Obrient).

Fans of The Young and the Restless have been vocal in desiring to see Paul return to Genoa City but now it looks as if the CBS soap has permanently retired the beloved character. When Michel Damian returned as Danny Romalatti he and Christine went down memory lane together and viewers wondered if the soap was going to put them back together. When Chris was recently talking to Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) and Lauren Baldwin (Tracey E Bregman) there was something in her voice and her eyes that suggested there were problems in her marriage.

Is this truly the end of a beloved character for 4 decades?

Although no official announcement has been made those who watch The Young and the Restless should be prepared that Christine's words may be the last we hear about Paul unless Christine might at a later date acknowledge they are officially separated or divorced and that he will spend his retirement in Portugal with his daughter and granddaughter. It's also possible this may only come again if Chris begins dating again.

To retire the character off-screen and send him to another country is a very callous way of handling a 40-year soap veteran of the show. The Y&R execs are acting like they have an ex to grind with Davidson but no one knows why he was fired and the only hint was a brief comment by Eric Braden saying that Dougie Davidson was not "difficult."The good news is that Davidson recently said he thinks it's time that he gives an interview with a trusted source and gives his side of the story. His followers would really appreciate closure regarding why Y&R did him so dirty.

Doug Davidson may offer some answers in an upcoming interview

Those who spread the rumor that Paul would be killed off may have been picking up on the fact that the character was being written out of The Young and the Restless and sent to Portugal. it's been 5 years since Paul was reduced to recurring status and shortly after he was no longer seen in Genoa City. Until the recent comments by his wife, he was at times referred to as the "chief" as if he were still a part of the series which infuriate Davidson's fans. The show did not replace him but had his daughter and granddaughter show up in Genoa City to discuss him with other characters.

At this point, all The Young and the Restless viewers can do is wait to find out of Doug Davidson will indeed give a tell-all interview and to see if anything else will be mentioned about Paul WIlliams in Genoa City. Davidson's followers have complained on Twitter and Instagram as well as sent a petition to CBS/Sony and not one word from them or Y&R execs has come forth. This is not the ending that those who loved the actor and his character desired but it looks like this is the one they are going to get. Be on the lookout for updates on this situation from Davidson or Christine elaborating on the show.
