Will Spencer turn out to be a true Cassadine?

General Hospital viewers have watched Spencer Cassadine grow from a precarious little boy into a handsome teenager. The young man who portrays him, Nicholas Bechtel will be turning 15 in 2020. The young prince has been mentioned frequently, but has not been in Port Charles for quite some time. When he was last on screen, he was challenging his great uncle Valentin, and seeking Sonny's assistance in vanquishing the man who he believed murdered his father. Last week Nikolas returned from the dead, and everyone jumped him about allowing his son to believe he was an orphan for three years. Kevin even handed him his phone and suggested the Cassadine heir call his son, but the teen did not pick up.

There is always the possibility that Spencer may have known all along that his father was alive. General Hospital fans may recall that at one point the young prince had two cell phones and was talking to an unknown individual. Some viewers believed he was talking to his father, because there was always the belief that Nikolas Mikhail Stavrosovich Cassadine did not die. For three years the rumor mill teased a Nikolas return and in September it became a reality. Unfortunately Nik has returned to Port Charles in full Cassadine mode and has made several bad devisions.

Laura is elated that her son has come home, but troubled that he is embracing his role as the dark prince. She was absolutely stunned that his actions caused Ava to check herself into Shady Brook and that he left his do fatherless for three years. Should it turn out that Dpencer knew all along that his father was not murdered, perhaps Laura might lighten up a little bit. The question that now is on everyone's mind is what to expect from Spencer when he returns from boarding school.

Nicholas Bechtel has not mentioned a return date for his popular character and fans are hoping he will not be replaced and Spencer won't be a victim of SOSAS, (Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome.) When the young man does come back to Port Charles, he will find that his evil uncle has been vanquished and his father is Lord of the manner once more. He will also learn that Ava Jerome is his new step mother. Spencer is part Cassadine and part Corinthos, as Sonny's sister Courtney was his mother. Treachery, revenge, and mob mentality are in his genes. As a child, the young prince was a joy to watch and rather entertaining. His grandmother Laura and her husband Kevin tried their best to keep him in line.

Spoiler alerts and comings and goings for General Hospital do not mention anything about Spencer's return but fans feel it is imminent. Now that his father has returned, Valentin is no longer a threat, so there is no reason for him to remain abroad. When he gets back to Port Charles there will be a heart warming father son reunion, but it may be short lived. Ava and Obrecht living in his home may prove to be a nuisance for the young prince. Now that his father has fully embraced his dark side, will he even be able to be a decent role model for his son? Nikolas used to be considered the good Cassadine but that is no longer the case. Once he and Spencer are reunited, viewers may find it is a case of the apple not falling far from the tree.

Madame mayor may find she has her hands full trying to run the city and keep up with her son and grandson. Perhaps after the dust has settled, some of the animosity toward Nikolas may subside. Spencer may even continue to have some of his youthful spunk, at least for a season. Living in the family home, with Nikolas, Obrecht, and Ava will not be the best environment for an impressionable teen. Perhaps Laura, Kevin, and Lulu can bring some balance and positive influence to the teens life, but they won't be able to stop the inevitable. If Nikolas was unable to fight his demons, then what hope is there to keep his son from the dark side.

The one thing on Spencer's side is the fact that so many people are looking out for his best interests. Jax, Hayden, Laura, Ava, Nina and Nikolas all wanted the young prince to regain his inheritance. General Hospital fans will be watching closely to find out if Spencer can break the Cassadine curse, or if he will fully embrace his darkness as his father is doing.
