Time to say goodbye to Max and Mike

Max Gail is back on the set of General Hospital but fans are having mixed emotions about it. The veteran actor will be filming or may have already taped his final scenes as Sonny’s dad who is dying from Alzheimer’s disease. The faithful viewers, however, do not desire to say goodbye. Gail, as Mike Corbin has grown on those who enjoy the ABC daytime drama they just do not want to see him or his character exit. Unfortunately for all concerned, the storyline calls for it. There is no cure at this time for Alzheimer’s disease so Mike cannot have the miracle that many of his followers desire.

A friend of Max Gail by the name of Sue manages the actor's Facebook page. She recently explained to fans that it would not be fair to those who are dealing with Alzheimer's in real time, to have Mike recover. She said that Gail loves and appreciates the support but this storyline must play out as it was written. Earlier this summer, it was announced that actors over the age of 65 would not be allowed back on the set of the soaps because of COVID. This obviously changed because Max Gail, 77, and Eric Braeden 79, (The Young and the Restless) were both among the first called back to their respective sets.

Initially Mike Corbin was functional and even fell in love with Yvonne, a fellow patient at Turning Woods. There was one episode where the two escaped and everyone was looking for them. They were so cute together and even had a mock marriage. Yvonne's health went downhill quickly after that and her legal husband Marcus, (whim she did not remember) had a feeding tube inserted. Nothing more has been mentioned about her, so viewers do not know if she is living or dead. It would be nice if she could have just a few more moments with her spouse before he passes away, but that seems highly unlikely.

The last time Gail was on screen, was just prior to the hiatus. His character, Mr. Corbin had stopped eating and was lying in bed with his mouth open. Liz told Sonny at that time that he needed to give his dad permission to go. Sonny is torn and definitely not ready, but with Gail back on the set, this indicates the end is near. Many viewers have been posting on Max Gail's Facebook page that they have already been crying and everything is about to become even more emotional. Sue stated on the Facebook page that it was indeed time to get out the tissues.

Mike has truly bonded with Sonny, Carly and the rest of the family during this past year. He has also had some fun adventures in spite of his medical problems. Mike took Avery to the stables because he thought she was his deceased daughter Courtney. He showed up at the bar that he thought was Luke's Place where he had worked 20 years earlier. He even went behind the counter and tried to work. There were times when he did not recognize Sonny and this was painful for his son, as well as the television audience to endure.

Some General Hospital fans believe that Mike will die just as soon as his son tells him it is OK to go. This would really be hard to watch because Sonny will breakdown and it could cause his bipolar disorder to become stronger.Be sure to tune in to General Hospital which will air it's first new episode on Monday, August 3, unless there have been more delays. The Corinthos family is going to be dealing with a lot of drama in addition to Mike's ultimate demise.

The court case for custody of Avery took a turn when it was announced that Julian married Nelle. Valentin is trying to buy up all the ELQ stock, and Michael has yet to find out that he and Willow were tricked into getting married, by Sasha and Chase. Carly later found out and kept it secret so Sonny and Michael will both no doubt be angry with her. Stay tuned because some exciting episodes are coming up soon.
