'General Hospital' alum Kimberly McCullough pays tribute to the late dancer Shabba Doo

The actress and director reveals that as a child star she had a role in Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo along with the entertainer who passed away on December 31.

Long time General Hospital viewers can remember 7-year-old Kimberly McCullough's debut as 6 year old Robin Scorpio. What may not be known is that this was not the first role for the actress turned director. She began her career in a movie, as a dancer at age 5. McCullough got her start as a young blonde girl in pigtails who was with a group of young dancers in Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo. She shared this recently on social media, after the death of the legendary Shabba Doo who was the star of Breakin and its sequel. McCullough said that although he was the "Big Cheese" he treated her well and made her feel as if she belonged.

Shabba Doo was born Adolfo Quinones and got his start as one of the original Soul Train dancers. He was a member of The Orignal Lockers wh brought the popping and locking genre of dance mainstream. Quinones rose to fame in the two Breakin movies and went on to bigger and better things. He passed way at his home on December 30, at age 65. No cause of death has been given. You can see young McCullough in the video clip that she shared of a scene in the movie.

Kimberly McCullough said she auditioned many times for the role of Robin Scorpio until she finally got it. She began her career on General Hospital in 1985 as the daughter of spies, Robert Scorpio and Anna Devane. The actress remained on the ABC soap until 2001 and returned for a short time in 2004 and again in 2005. She came back in July of 2012 and signed a contract to work full time, in August 2013. McCullough signed a contract to return to the series full-time.

A little over a year ago, Kimberly McCullough announced that she would no longer portray Robin Scorpio Drake on General Hospital and would be spending her time behind the camera. Fans who had watched her for more than 3 decades grow from a child to a woman we absolutely stunned. The actress said that from now on she would concentrate on directing and currently is an ABC Director Fellow, and shadows other directors. In 1989 an 11 year old, McCullough won her first Daytime Emmy Award, for "Outstanding Juvenile Female in a Drama Series". In 1996 she won her second Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Leading Actress in a Drama Series".

Kimberly McCulloygh's very first acting appearance was when she was 7-month-old. She was a baby in a diaper commercial,and costarred with veteran actress Juliet Mills. McCullough began doing gymnastics at the age of 4, and performed with a group called the Gym Dandies. When she was 6, she auditioned for choreographer Debbie Allen who cast the young girl in the television series Fame. McCulloug's next role was working with Shabba Doo as a young dancer in in Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

McCullough has mamages to keep her recent private life pretty much under wraps. She had previously been involved in a long-term relationship with Freddie Prinze Jr. prior to his meeting and marrying Sarah Michelle Gellar. In 2015 McCullough shared ina blog tht she had miscarried a daughter when she was 22 weeks pregnant but did not divulge who the father was. She shared with fans that she was pregnant again and had given birth to a son, Otis on June 7, 2017. In December of that ye ar it was announced that Kimberly, her partner, and son had to flee their home due to the California wildfires. Again no name was released for her significant other.

The actress has endeared herself to legions of General Hospital fans because they watched her grow up on screen. Her character Robin is from legacy family and she is the inspiration behind the creation of the annual GH Nurses Ball. Although she has said she has no interest in acting any longer, some fans still hope that one year she might make a return to Port Charles, even if only to visit during the ball. Condolences to the family of Shabba Doo and best of luck to Kimberly McCullough in her future endeavors.
