General Hospital nominations

General Hospital began in 1963 as a 30-minute program that was action packed and kept viewers coming back for more. The soap was extended to 45 minutes in 1976 and it was at this time that viewers first learned the medical facility was located in Port Charles. For the first 13 years the name of the town was never mentioned. In 1978 GH went to a full hour and fans were elated. Following is the list of names of the categories and or cast members that have been nominated for this year and good luck to them one and all.

General Hospital did not have any nominees for lead actor but Jeff Kober ( Cyrus Renault) was nominated for Outstanding supporting actor. Two onscreen rivals Cynthia Watros (Nina, Reeves) and Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos) were both nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress and Kelly Thiebaud (Britt Westbourne) and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) were nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress.

For Outstanding Younger Performer GH had three of the teens to be nominated. They were Nicholas Chavez (Spencer, Cassadine), William Lipton (Cameron, Webber) and Sydney Mikayla (Trina Robinson). Eden McCoy ( Joslyn Jacks) was a past winner and Kristen Avery Pohl (Esme Prince)may not have been on the show long enough for a nomination. Outstanding Guest Performer nod went to Robert Gossett (Marshall, Ashford). For those who were not aware, Gossett is the first cousin of veteran actor Louis Gossett Jr.

Gossett's character has now left Port Charles and it's known at this time whether or not he will return. Mikayla left General Hospital behind so that she can concentrate on her college classes. She was replaced by Tabyana Ali. Kober's run on the soap also came to an end. He did return for one episode where Cyrus told his sister Mayor Laura Collins that he had found God in prison.
