Forensic Files is a popular American television documentary-style program. Each episode explains how forensic science can be utilized in finding the truth about unsolved mysteries. The show tackles such issues as suspicious accidents, violent crimes and outbreaks of illness. Everything from led paint, antifreeze to rat poison has been identified as the culprit in sudden deaths. So called accidental vehicle crashes have been proven to have been premeditated murder. Spouses who thought they would be collecting a massive amount of funds from life insurance policies have been proven to be murderers and incarcerated because of forensic informationn.

Forensic Files debuted on TLC, in 1996 and broadcast 406 original episodes under the title Medical Detectives. Each show was narrated by the talented Peter Thomas, who passed away on April 3oth 2016. Forensic Files, which became an instant success was produced by Medstar Television. It was distributed by FilmRise, in association with truTV Original Productions until 2011. From that time, the reruns have been broadcast on HLN and were re-titled Mystery Detectives. In 2014 the name was changed to it's current title after Court TV purchased the rights to the programming.

Forensic files has developed a cult following of loyal fans, who watch each week and attempt to solve the crimes before the end of the show. There are people who say they have seen every single episode of the popular program. My husband and I often fall asleep while watching episodes then wake up to catch them again in the early hours of the morning. Although we realized the same episodes were rerunning throughout the night, we continued to watch any way. Now, after 11 years of reruns, devoted fans have something near and different to look forward to. On October 1, 2019, HLN announced was going to revive the show, and re-brand it Forensic Files II. The first episode of the reboot will air on Sunday February 23, 2020 at 10:00 PM. Bill Camp will be the new narrator because of the death of Peter Thomas.

Peter Thomas

Peter Thomas, the Forensic Files announcer died at age 91 and had a career that lasted more than 70 years. He began working as a local radio announcer at age 14 but was not able to be paid because of his age. His payment was flying lessons from the Piper Aircraft company. He won an Oscar for narrating the HBO documentary, One Survivor Remembers. He also was the narrator for the Discovery Channel's How the West was Lost and lent his distinctive voice to commercials for IBM, Coca-Cola, Burger King, Valvoline, NBC, United Technologies, and ESPN Monday Night football. Thomas also narrated the NCAA's official highlight film of the 1985, the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. Those who have become accustomed to the voice of Peter Thomas over the decades will no doubt have a period of adjustment but in time will come to accept Bill Camp. Forensic Files II will showcase 16 all new half hour mysteries to solve but will feature the same story type, music, style and content that devoted fans have come to know and love.

It will be exciting for die hard fans who have been watching the same episodes over and over and over again during the past nine years.
