Eric Braden fans are concerned

Eric Braden has portrayed Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless since 1980 which was a decision that changed his life. The soap vet turned 80 in April of 2021 and is still going strong. A social media post made by the actor in August still has some of his devotees worked up because they believe he is about to retire. You can read about it by clicking on the following link.

Eric Braeden has made his position clear

Eric Braden has stated many times how he feels about retiring yet fans continue to worry that he will leave The Young and the Restless. There are several interviews online where the actor makes his position crystal clear and he even discusses it in his book "I'll Be Damned." His views have not changed in more than a decade of discussing the matter and unless something different comes out of his mouth Y&R fans should believe what he says. The man who portrays Victor Newman has stated countless times that he will not retire because when you retire you die.

The Young and the Restless news: Fans cannot always believe what they hear

In the world of entertainment celebrities often keep personal decisions to themselves. They also make public statements that change over time. Daytime executives often change their minds regarding characters and do something different than what they first announced. Following are two examples.

Steve Burton left his role of Jason Quartermaine on General Hospital in 2013 and said he was leaving show business to spend time with his family. Fans were stunned when a few months later he turned up on The Young and the Restless as Dillon Macavoy. In February of this year. Y&R announced that the role of Chance Chancellor would not be recast after they fired Donny Boaz. Now Conner Floyd has been hired as the new Phillip Chancellor IV. This proves that people change their minds both the actors as well as those behind the scenes.

Eric Braeden is straightforward

Eric Braden has shown himself over the years to be straightforward with his followers. If he says he has no plans to retire then he should be taken at his word. Viewers do need to consider his age and that it would be quite normal if some health issue arose that limited what he could do on screen. Having said that Bill Hayes (Doug Williams) will be 97 in 2022 and is still going strong on the NBC soap Days of Our Lives.

Hayes castmate John Anniston at 88 also continues to be a part of the NBC soap. Kudos to the DOOL execs for allowing the cast to work as long as they can perform their lines. The Young and the Restless will no doubt work with Braden until the actor or a family member indicates he can no longer perform.

Eric Braeden may be on Y&R for years to come

Frances Reid who portrayed Alice Horton and Joe Mascola who played Stephano DiMera both worked until they began forgetting their lines. Reid was 93 and died two years later. Mascola was 87 and died within 6 months of being let go. Eric Braden shares videos on Facebook and Twitter where he exercises walks and works out. He is doing everything he can to remain healthy.

Those who watch The Young and the Restless do not see Braden as an 80-year-old man but simply as Victor who is ageless. Fans should stop worrying about his possible retirement and enjoy the actor for as long as he chooses to remain in the role. Should Braden one day decide to retire his decision should be respected. For now, let's hope the love and support of viewers who believe Victor is immortal will give his portrayer the strength to continue to entertain us for as long as he can.
