Elf: It's that wonderful time of year again

One of the most popular Christmas movies in recent years is Elf which is about Buddy (Will Ferrell) who has been working as an Elf at the North Pole but finds out he is really a human. He learns that his mother died and his father is living in New York. Buddy sets out on foot to walk to the Big Apple to find his long lost dad and this is when the fun begins. Elf was a box office hit made for $33 million and grossing more than 224 million. This film continues to be popular each holiday season for the past 18 years. It can be viewed on multiple television hetworks and some stations run the film back to back in marathons.

Elf: Zooey Deschanel's other roles

Zooey Claire Deschanel is legendary for her role as Jovie in the holiday film. She was born January 17, 1980 and in addition to acting she is a model, songwriter and musician. Her film debut came in 1999 in Mumford and in 2000 she had a supporting role in Almost Famous. Zooey is known for her deadpan roles in comedy movies including The New Guy and The Good Girl in 2002. Elf in 2003, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in 2005, Failure to Launch in 2006, Yes Man in 2008, 500 Days of Summer in 2009 and in 2011 Our Idiot Brother.

Deschanel's non comedy movie roles were in Manic (2001), All the Real Girls (2003), Winter Passing (2005), Bridge to Terabithia (2007), The Happening (2008) and The Driftless Area (2015). She starred as Jessica Day in the Fox Sitcom New Girl from 2011 to 2018, and for that role she reeceived nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and three Golden Globes.

Elf: Singing scene is popular with fans

As Jovie, in Elf , Zooey sinsg Baby it's Cold Outside while taking a shower in the department store restroom because her water has been turned off in her apartment. Buddy the Elf began singing along at the appropriate intervals and when she hears him Jovie peeps out from behind the shower curtain. She yells at Buddy and he runs into a wall after realizing she is naked. This is one of the most popular scenes in the entire movie.

Elf: Deschanel's impressive music career

Deschanel was a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show on November 18 where she talked about her music career. Gone were the blonde locks she displayed in Elf and they were replaced with hair that was longer and dark brown, almost black. Zooey began singing professionally in 2001, when she performed in the jazz cabaret act If All the Stars Were Pretty Babies. In 2006, she teamed up with M. Ward to form She & Him. The duo released their debut album, titled Volume One, in 2008 and since that time have since released five albums: Volume Two (2010), A Very She & Him Christmas (2011), Volume 3 (2013), Classics (2014), and Christmas Party (2016).

In 2011 Deschanel garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media for "So Long". This recording was featured on the soundtrack of the 2011 film Winnie the Pooh. You can listen to it in the above video. In addition to singing, the actress plays banjo, keyboards, ukulele and percussion.

Zooey's is the younger sister of actress Emily Deschanel, who starred in the Fox crime comedy-drama series Bones. She has two children with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik: Elsie Otter, born in July 2015, and Charlie Wolf, born in May 2017. She is currently dating Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott.
