Does Spencer Cassadine have a future on 'General Hospital'

GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers have been expressing mixed reviews regarding the Spencer Cassadiue recast. The son of Prince Nikolas and Sonny's sister Courtney was beloved as he was portrayed by Nicolas Bechtel. Viewers watched him grow from a 7 year old into a teenager and then recently he was replaced by Nicolas Chavez. Fans of the show knew there must be a reason to the character was aged but had no idea what was coming. Please note this article is related to the character only and is not against Chavez who is only playing a role.

Soap fans often have difficulty when characters are aged but some GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers were hoping to give the new Spencer a chance. The writers, however, seem to be writing him into a no win situation from which he might not be able to recover. First, he is revealed as the stalker, and fans of the show don't like what has happened to Ava. Nava fans are especially angry because they enjoyed the chemistry between the couple. Spencer's actions have destroyed the marriage and also caused Ava to want to flee Port Charles. This is in part because of Esme, Spencer's girlfriend who set fire to Mrs. Cassadine's vehicle and left an ID tag with Kiki's name on it.

Spencer is allowing his father to doubt himself when Nikolas was right all the time about his son. This situation has also caused a rift between Laura and her son and she has no idea how devious her grandson really is. GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers are also angry at the way Spencer treated Trina. He spent a lot of time with her and she is clearly distraught that he has revealed Esme as a girlfriend, A number of fans of the show thought perhaps Spencer and Trina might become a couple and they still could but it does not seem likely.

Joss and Cam have fallen in love and are exploring life together. Spencer has a worldliness about him and continues to be cocky and spoiled. He and Esme are clearly sleeping together while Trina is still innocent. Spencer was obviously toying with her affections while Esme was working at GENERAL HOSPITAL. He obviously has shared his Ava issues with his lover because she sprang into action when she found out Nikolas was setting a trap for his son.

GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers are having to adjust to the fact that Nicolas Bechtel is no longer in the role of Spencer along with the fact that he has aged. They also are having trouble watching his mean streak towards his father and stepmom. At this present time, Spencer is not a likable character and some fans wonder if he has a future on the ABC soap. Even viewers who don't care much for Nava say that the young man has gone too far.

Eventually, all of his bad choices will be revealed and some of them could be considered criminal. Esme certainly should be prosecuted for torching Ava's vehicle. This girl is clearly unhinged and she knows all of Spencer's secrets. It was not very smart of him to confide in her because at some point she will probably tell all. Spencer might continue to try to spend time with Trina and Esme snitches on him as revenge even though she will be implecating herself.

Genie Francis has gone on vacation and will not be back on GENERAL HOSPITAL until the fall. Between now and then her grandson will be running amuck and Nava will be clueless unless something changes. Fans of the ABC soap are overwhelmingly saying they do not like this version of Spencer and wonder what the writers were thinking. Certainly, any character can be redeemed but if Sencer continues down his dark path there will be no one in his corner.

Comments on social media are about 98% against Spencer so if there is going to be a turnaround it needs to happen soon.
