Billy and Victoria are drifting apart

Monday's episode of The Young and the Restless was not shown because of the impeachment hearings. For this reason Tuesday's programming will be seen on Wednesday unless there is another delay. Whenever that particular show is broadcast, viewers will be in for a shock. Billy Abbott is fully embracing his dark side and has begun gambling again. Nikki was singing her son in law's praises to her husband, regarding his dealing with his recent issues. Victor, however, remained skeptical and while they were talking, "Villy" was having a strange encounter at a restaurant.

It was as if Billy and Victoria were talking at one another, and neither was truly hearing what the other one was saying. Vicki wanted their entire family to go to a ski resort for Christmas, but her mate was less than enthused. As they continued their discourse, both seemed to be trying too hard and it looked as if any moment, one of them would say, "This isn't working." It was painful to watch this once loving couple growing distant and falling apart at the seams. They were smiling and almost too polite to each other. Surely Victor Newman's daughter is outraged at her unemployed non husband but she played it off as if he had done something wonderful by quitting his job.

Victoria asked if he were looking for work and if he needed her to put out some feelers. Billy responded that he tried online and no one is hiring now but he would start searching again after the holiday. Truthfully he probably will not find anything as lucrative as his position at Jabot or what he may have earned, had he accepted Vicki's offer to work at Newman. Victor is right to be concerned because his former son in law is heading down a dark path. After Billy left the restaurant, Nick showed up and Victoria told her brother that her significant other had gone to the gym. Nicholas pointed out that it was late at night and Vicki seemed embarrassed as she said Billy's therapist was encouraging him to keep motivated.

When William Abbott was next shown he was in a bar drinking alone. Viewers could hear him thinking to himself and it was clear he is searching for direction. He sent Vicki a text apologizing for his earlier behavior and told her he was in agreement with the ski trip. He had the same bad boy look that he wore when he was dealing with dissociative disorder and chewing gum. Billy was later shown at a card game where he was thinking to himself again. He said he knew the people at the table only wanted his money, but he could be himself around them and not pretend to be someone he is not.

This seems to indicate that once again Billy is running from responsibility. He simply is not cut out to be a dependable family man. He wants to be free and if he loses his money gambling while he is unemployed, then Billy Boy will be everything that Victor has said all along. Jill, who should be enjoying her time traveling will eventually have to be concerned with both her estranged spouse and her son who are acting like children. It's not clear if she resumed her travels, or is helping Cane attempt to track down his father. Wherever she is, she has no idea that her son is in trouble.

Jack accepted his sibling's resignation with the same nonchalant attitude as his former sister in law. It's as if they all have blinders on and are missing the warning signs. Be sure to tune in to The Young and the Restless each weekday afternoon on CBS at 12:30 PM EST. The writers seem determined to have Billy self destruct and it is happening pretty fast. John and Jill's son seems to love the dark side and if he pursues Amanda as spoiler alerts suggest, this will be the icing on the cake.
