Thursday on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS there will be a stand-alone episode that is all about Adam Newman. It will be a sort of fantasy and begins with Victor Newman's youngest son lying in his hospital bed. He is dreaming that he wakes up to the sound of Sharon crying. When he looks up she is standing at the foot of his bed sobbing. Adam asks what's wrong and she will say that Faith's body rejected the kidney transplant because Adam is toxic and like cancer to everyone he touches.

The scene changes and Adam is now at the Newman ranch where he sits at the chessboard with his father. Victor will tell his son that for once he has to play by the rules as this will be the most important game of his life and will determine his future. Rey will walk into the room just as Adam is considering going for the knight and point out how Adam has always wanted to take him out. Rey goes on to say that Adam always viewed him as standing in his way rather than as someone who would protect Sharon.

The detective also blames Adam for Chelsea's breakdown because he did not love her the way he should have. He reminds Adam that he showed up on the day of Shey's wedding but the black sheep Newman responds that he did not try to stop the nuptials. Rey tells his rival that something is broken inside of him which is the reason he can't be loyal to Chelsea and always runs to Sharon when he is in trouble. Rey suggests Adam should cut Sharon loose because it's the only way she can be free of him.

This dream seems like Adam is being visited by the ghosts of his past and present as Chloe appears next just when he decides to move his pawn on the chessboard. Ms. Mitchell will emphasize the importance of this chess piece and Adam implies that Chloe was sacrificed like a pawn when she assisted Chelsea, but she will neither confirm nor deny the validity of his statement.

Adam will argue that the pawn is the piece everyone sacrifices in service of their goals. He’ll guess Chelsea sacrificed Chloe like a pawn when she made Chloe her accomplice, but Chloe will neither confirm nor deny it. Chloe will talk about how she’s in a "strong, supportive relationship with the man of her dreams and two beautiful children." She will add that compared to Adam, she is winning.

Chloe and Victor then give Adam conflicting advice regarding his next move and the Newman bad boy will choose to protect his rook. Billy Abbott is the next to appear and tells Adam that he will never win the game if he does not begin tearing down walls. He also says they are forever connected because of the fateful night that Deliah died. After Billy vanishes, Victor tells his son that the Bishop is the most dangerous piece on the chessboard, and poof, Phyllis appears. Adam wonders if this means his father actually views her as a threat.

Phyllis will remind Adam of all the fun they had together with espionage, hacking, and blackmail. Adam insists he is attempting to change but the redhead does not believe him. She even taunts him by saying that Adam is just like his "dear old dad." In real-time Adam begins tossing and turning in his hospital bed as Nick arrives in the dream. He tells his brother that he is the white knight and has come to save him.

Nick then forces Adam to realize that Sharon is his queen but when she arrives Sharon announces to the siblings that she is not anybody's queen. She will insist that she is Adam's crutch but he does not really need her by his side. Sharon will thank Adam for what he did for Faith then ask him to let her go. When Adam is alone again with only his father, Victor will tell him he can still make a move that will win the game.

Adam decides to forfeit then asks his dad what move would have won the game. Chelsea suddenly appears and argues about Adam, choosing Sharon as her therapist. Adam responds by saying he never wanted to hurt her but was only trying to get his family back. Chelsea then tells her spouse that he cannot see the move that is right in front of him. Ms. Lawson next announces that she was Adam's queen but now it's too late and she walks away.

Victoria arrives chides her brother for underestimating her, She advises him that winning is the only thing that matters and thAT she is the one he should fear most. Adam suddenly wakes up as Nate tells Nick and Sharon that Faith should make a full recovery. Adam gets out of bed anhd begins walking through the hospital. Nick will see him and ask Nate if his brother should be up and about. Dr. Hastings will say this is good but Nick has a reason for concern.

As he gives his sibling the good news about Fatih, Adam will begin rambling about winning the game and needing to make amends. Nick tells Sharon he believes the drugs have affected his brother and she will go into his hospital room. Sharon realizes that Adam is not loopy as he tells her that he must let her go. He will decide to play matchmaker and get Shey back together but Sharon thinks it's too late to save her marriage. \

Later Victor visits Adam who declares he will not disappoint his father this time. When he goes back to the ranch the Newman patriarch looks at the chessboard, makes a move, and declares checkmate. Spoilers indicate this will be a turning point for Adam but there is no indication yet whether he ends up with Sharon or she reunites with Rey so stay tuned.

Sharon will guess this is the new Adam with a little of the old mixed in. Adam will agree he’s using his powers for good instead of evil.

While Nick tells Phyllis that he’s cautiously optimistic about his brother’s turnaround, Adam will get a visit from Victor. He’ll assure his father that he won’t let him down this time.

Back at the ranch, Victor will pour himself a drink and notice a chess move that was there all along. He’ll move the piece and declare checkmate.

The Young and the Restless spoilers say Adam will indeed start down a brighter path, so stay tuned
