5 Villains That Would've Fit Seamlessly Into Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy

The Dark Knight Trilogy is perhaps one of the most amazing set of superhero films - ever. Each film had an intricate plot, complex and layered characters, great acting, and even greater villains. Each antagonist, whether they're the main one or not, had a distinct purpose withinthe story. They represented many things, but constantly aimed for one part of Batman to "break" (as I'm sure you've seen in countless online photos). Despite the 6.5 amazing villains we saw (sorry, Catwoman wasn't really a villain), there are still tons more that we should've seen, simply because of how amazingly Christopher Nolan could've handled them. Five villains stood out to me, so why don't we take a look at them!

5. The Riddler

By now, I think everyone knows that The Riddler was supposed to be the main antagonist in The Dark Knight Rises, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Clearly that plan didn't work out, but I think The Riddler would be a fantastic addition to Nolan's set of rogues. Not only is he terrifyingly creepy, but he could be a true threat to Batman by revealing his identity. The Riddler is fairly excellent with technology and could pose a different, non-physical kind of threat to Bruce Wayne.

4. The Penguin

The Penguin has appeared in a decent number of live action roles so far, from 1966's Batman to Gotham. Oswald Cobblepot is a very real character with a very real personality, something that Nolan could do very well with. The only qualm I would have with bringing him (a mob boss) into the series, is that he might step on the toes of Maroni and Falcone from Batman Begins.

3. Hush

Hush is a fan-favourite, who (for some unknown reason), hasn't made his live action debut yet. Yes, we saw a version of Thomas Elliot on Gotham but it doesn't really count because of how off it was. This version wasn't a friend of Bruce's (which is literally the only thing that drives him to become Hush), so adaptation-wise, it didn't soar too well. On top of that, he was only in one episode. If Hush were to make his way into the Nolanverse, there would need to be an already established friendship between Bruce and Thomas so as not to draw suspicion when Hush comes on screen. He's pretty much a sequel villain.

2. Dr. Hugo Strange

Fans familiar with the Arkham games will instantly recognize the maniacal Hugo Strange as one of Batman's greatest foes. He's truly a genius, deducing Batman's identity quickly, and then dressed up as Batman when he revealed his knowledge of Bruce Wayne's activities to Bruce himself. It might just be me, but I think Nolan could go above and beyond with a twisted doctor like Strange.

1. Mr. Freeze

Mr. Freeze is an amazing Batman villain who hasn't found his way to the big screen (because Batman and Robin doesn't count). He will soon, through Gotham, but there's something about him that has a cinematic feel. It's probably how steeped in science-fiction he is. Mr. Freeze would be a tragically beautiful character on the big screen, considering his devotion to his wife Nora. We could see him start out as a lowly employee of Wayne Enterprises and build his way up to supervillain. Oh well, maybe in the new trilogy.
