Driving can be a tiring and monotonous task, especially when you are on a long journey. Many people tend to get sleepy while driving, and it can lead to dangerous consequences. While there are many ways to try and stay alert, sometimes nothing seems to work, and the only option is to pull over and take a nap. This can be a lifesaving decision, and it is essential to prioritize your safety in reaching your destination on time.

However, some roads around the world are so dangerous that pulling over might not be an option. These roads are not only treacherous but also a nightmare for drivers. Here are five of the most dangerous roads in the world that you would never want to drive on.

1. Passage du Gois, France

Located on the Atlantic coast of France, Passage du Gois is a natural passageway that connects the island to the mainland. The road is about two and a half miles long and is a National Monument. However, it is also one of the most dangerous roads in the world. The road is right next to the water, and it gets flooded twice a day due to high tide. If you ever get your schedule mixed up, it can be a nightmare as the high tide makes the road 5 to 13 feet underwater. Many vehicles in the past have disappeared in the water because the road is surrounded by water, so turning back won't do you any good. Not only is it dangerous due to high tides, but it is also slippery because of seaweed and anything left behind by the tide.

2. Tianmen Mountain Road, China

Tianmen Mountain Road, also known as the Big Gate Road to Heaven, is located in the Hunan province of China. It is one of the most dangerous roads in China, with many twists and turns that even looking at the pictures will make your spine tingle. The road is around 6.8 miles long from bottom to top and has 99 hairpin turns. The road starts around 200 meters below sea level and reaches up to 1,300 meters above sea level. The construction of the road began in 1998 and took eight years to finish. The scenery is beautiful, but taking your eyes off the road for a second can be fatal. There are also 999 stairs called the "Stairway to Heaven," which is inclined to reach the peak of the mountain where the Heaven's Gate is located. The cable car from Jiaozuo city to the top of the mountain is a safer alternative to driving on this road.

3. Skippers Canyon Road, New Zealand

Skippers Canyon Road is located in New Zealand and is a narrow and winding road that has no guardrails. The road was built in the late 1800s during the gold rush, and it has remained unchanged since then. The road is only wide enough for one vehicle to pass through, and if two vehicles meet, one has to reverse back to a wider point. The road is not only narrow, but it is also steep, making it a dangerous combination. The road is only open during the summer months, and you need a special permit to drive on it.

4. Zojila Pass, India

Zojila Pass is located in India and is one of the most dangerous roads in the world. The road is around 9 kilometers long and connects Srinagar and Leh. The road is open only during the summer months and is closed during the winter due to heavy snowfall. The road is not only narrow, but it is also steep and has no guardrails. Landslides and avalanches are common, making it a treacherous road to drive on.

5. Sichuan-Tibet Highway, China

The Sichuan-Tibet Highway is a high-elevation road that begins and ends in Tibet and is around 1,300 miles long. The road is a regular route for many truck drivers, but it is also one of the most dangerous roads in the world. The road has beautiful landscapes, but the journey is around 15 days long, making it a tedious journey. Landslides and avalanches are common, and there have been many accidents and deaths associated with the road.
