The horror genre is living one of the best periods of its history

The horror genre is experiencing an impressive success in cinema and in diverse artistic expressions such as novels, television series, video games, etc. The year 2022 was extraordinary for the genre and everything indicates that 2023 will be too. Both screenwriters and directors seek to explore horror through different facets to surprise fans of the genre and the general public.

Here is a new list of horror movies you must see in 2023.

#1.Unwelcome, Jon Wright

Maya and Jamie are a London couple expecting their first child. They inherit a house in the rural Ireland. The young couple seizes the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle and dangers of the big city. However, upon settling into their new home, the neighbors warn them of an evil presence that has been living in the woods for generations. When a family renovation company is hired to do some repairs, circumstances become murky to the point where Maya must risk her own life to protect her family.

Unwelcome opens on January 27th.

#2.The Haunted Mansion, Justin Simien

Walt Disney Pictures explores the horror genre adapted for children. Haunted Mansion tells the story of Gabbie, a single mother who hires a tour guide, a psychic, a priest and a historian to help her exorcise her new mansion after discovering it is inhabited by ghosts.

Haunted Mansion is inspired by the classic theme park attraction of the same name. Through this film, Walt Disney Pictures seeks to excel in the horror genre, which is experiencing enormous success in all forms of entertainment.

Haunted Mansion opens on August 11, 2023.

#3.The Pope's Exorcist, Julius Avery

The Pope's Exorcist tells the true story of the Italian priest Gabriele Armoth (1925-2016), who had the spiritual talent to perform more than 80 thousand exorcisms. Armoth fought all his life against evil and Satan, founding the International Association of Exorcists in 1990. New Zealand actor Russell Crowe will have the difficult challenge of playing Armoth. The Oscar winner for the film Gladiator is honored to take on the complex task of playing such an important priest for the Catholic Church.

The Pope's Exorcist' will be produced by Screen Gems, which acquired the rights to tell the life story of the Italian exorcist. The film will be released on April 7.

#4.Saw 10, Kevin Greutert

The Saw horror movie saga reaches its tenth creation. Saw X returns to terrify a new generation of fans of the genre. John Kramer /Jigsaw, played by Tobin Bell, who has been dead since Saw III, comes back to life to carry out the most macabre plans.

Following the same guidelines of the horror movie franchise, the Saw X killer traps his victims and makes them play a macabre game in order to survive. As Detective Banks advances in the investigation, he will discover that he himself has become the central axis of the disturbed game perpetrated by the killer. Banks will have to discover whether Jogsaw is still alive or another killer is imitating him to perfection.

Saw X opens on October 27, 2023.

#5.Fear, Deon Taylor

Fear is a psychological horror film directed by Deon Taylor and starring Joseph Sikora, Andrew Bachelor, Annie Ilonzeh, Ruby Modine, Iddo Goldberg, Terrence Jenkins, Jessica Allain, and Tip "T.I." Harris.

The film is about a getaway for friends who need to relax and have fun. A weekend of celebration turns into a nightmare due to a contagious airborne threat. The goal of the film is for the viewer to explore their inner fears and wonder what emotional extremes they might go to in the face of unwanted circumstances.

Fear will premiere on January 20, 2023.
