There are endless possibilities on how to include Christmas into a story-line for an action movie with different outcomes that makes them better to watch then regular the Christmas movies.

The fun thing about an action movie that incorporates Christmas to be mentioned when it doesn't have to be the focus, it adds to the story to see Christmas in a chaotic way through the characters. Having an action movie with minor Christmas themes is the best loophole to try and get away from your normal Christmas movies and having something that can be played even past Christmas.

No doubt that one of the best action Christmas movies of all time is Die Hard, and you can even stretch to say that it’s sequel does hold up as an action Christmas movie. But there is a lot more than Die Hard if you’re looking to have an action Christmas movie marathon.

I'd like to share these four films that should be on your Christmas movie list, there might be some that you may have even forgotten about to be tied to Christmas. This list should help out if you just need something this season to entertain you.

1. The Last Boy Scout

The Last Boy Scout is about a disgraced former LA Stallions Quarterback and a disgraced Secret Service agent turned burned out private eye, they discover the corruption of a pro football team and a crooked senator.

Now this one doesn’t really have as much mentions to Christmas, but I count it for the line that makes fun of Christmas.

“Old Satan Claus is out there, and he's getting stronger.”

Now that line is just hilarious to inadvertently make fun of Christmas, for those out there that don't like Christmas, this would be that film to have with a minor mention that you could still stretch to say that it is a Christmas movie, even if it's for your own entertainment . This is also something to watch in-between other Christmas movies to have a break from them. It's a fun comedy and sports-themed crime movie that has the humor that you probably need to get through the holidays.

Another reason to watch this movie is because Bruce Willis from Die Hard is the main character in this film. So you already have your argument set up to win that it's basically going to be like watching Die Hard.

2. The Long Kiss Goodnight

A woman named Samantha Caine has had no recollection of her previous life prior to being found on the beach, two months pregnant with her daughter. Now as she's been trying to find the truth of her past life with a sleazy private detective. As Samantha begins to remember the parts of her life to reveal she was apart of the CIA, there are people that find out about her resurgence that want to bury her for good.

This is by far the film that no one has ever known about to be played on TV during Christmas. It's disheartening because it has every mark of an action Christmas movie just like Die Hard or Lethal Weapon. There are numerous references to the celebrations of Christmas without it being overly reliant to sell the point that it’s an action movie during Christmas time.

Samuel L Jackson’s humor is absolutely fantastic to see, even though the man is very comedic, he probably has some of the best comedic lines of his career in this movie.

The action is fantastic, the scenery of Christmas parades being turned into absolute chaos is entertaining and engaging. It's a wonderfully wild movie with a perfect amount of action antics and comedic crassness . The numerous jokes about Christmas being made is hilarious and doesn't feel like it's overdoing anything at all while being an over-the-top action movie.

Despite the fact that it's a movie with a character that is trying to remember her past, this is a movie you won't ever forget.

3. Batman Returns

Batman must face two villains on the rise in Gotham, the demented Penguin who maneuvers his way to the political status in Gotham, and the Catwoman, who has her own plans for chaos and vengeance.

The title holds up as Batman returned with the action and adventure you'd want to see bigger and better then before. Taking on two villains at the same time, has the best balance then any other comic book movie, and this one has Christmas added to the mix of mayhem.

If you really look at the fact that of all the comic book empires, DC is the one that primarily covers Christmas. I remember a couple of specials on the show Justice League that cover Christmas stories.

To think that Batman was the kind of story that could show us chaos, sinister characters, a perfect Gothic artistic aesthetic, and the best action sequences in the 90s Batman movies, all within a Christmas set-up.

Looking at this movie and how it's held the praise after all these years, it's got great action, and balances out with how it’s a really dark Christmas movie. A poor character has been thrown into the sewer as a baby, a woman who didn't deserve to be plunged to her death, there are many off-screen deaths, and Bruce Wayne still carries the weight of the burden of his tragedy, as he feels he still can't be happy.

For those who love the superheroes, this is perfect movie that still holds up as a perfect Batman movie that's also a perfect Christmas movie with turmoil and tragedy.

The Penguin put it best when he said, "Tragic irony or poetic justice, you tell me."

4. Lethal Weapon

A straight laced detective aiming for retirement in a couple years is paired with a distraught suicidal cop that lost wife in an accident. They have to put up with each other and work together to investigate a prostitution ring that leads to the drug smuggling operation.

I figured it was best to end this list with the movie that I feel embodies the most out of being a Christmas action movie that can rival Die Hard. But also this movie came out the year before Die Hard came out in 1988, Lethal Weapon was released in 1987. This was already making the first stride as an action movie with a Christmas tie-in.

Anytime I hear Jingle Bell Rock, I always think of how it served as the opening to this film to automatically set the tone that it takes place during Christmas. This is a movie that does use Christmas to its advantage for a plot purposes for the characters as well as seeing the rampage that happens to the surroundings of various Christmas decor, it's hilarious to see all the turmoil and destruction that happens on what is supposed to be the happiest time of the year.

There is more Christmas tree wreckage then National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, which keep in mind came out in 1989.

But I also want to point out that Lethal Weapon does strike a cord to relate to in the case of the character Martin Riggs. Martin Riggs is falling apart, and that’s a character that a few people can relate to that have lost someone and sometimes a little yuletide cheer doesn’t really help someone move on from what happened. A lot of Christmas movies always has a resolve about moving on or trying to sugarcoat it with cheer. When I went to go re-watch Lethal Weapon, I really felt that I could emanate with that character as he was just struggling in his own life and you could stretch and say that that kind of helps out with some people that struggle through Christmas.

The performance of Mel Gibson as Martin Riggs is balance of empathy and entertaining. The absolute bursts of insane acts he'll do makes him a character to stand out for how unapologetic and unhinged he is, there is no way to not be engaged by his character.

It's movie that broke ground for many buddy-cop movies but this movie is a wonderful, chaotic mess of comedic mayhem that puts the mess in Christ-mess.

If your going to celebrate Christmas, it should be blast after all. These movies should help with your holiday celebrations either with your family, on a zoom call, or just with you and your pet.

Enjoy the films and have a Merry Christmas.
