I don't know why all these books have strong female leads, but that's just where the books are heading. #Feminism. Also some of these novels didn't come out in 2018, but a novel never loses its value.

**also buy books at thriftbooks, you can get books for waaaay cheap!

'The Darkest Minds' by Alexandra Bracken

This is about to become a movie, so hurry and read it! Or don't because it is a series so you will have more answers after the cliffhanger at the end of the movie. But if you haven't seen the trailer or read the book, its about kids how have supernatural powers after the epidemic of kids who couldn't handle the "disease." They get put in concentration camps of sorts and are monitored by the government. I am currently reading the first book and it is so far really good!

'To Kill a Kingdom' by Alexandra Christo

This isn't a sequel, nor have I read it, but the summary of it looked amazing. It's like The Little Mermaid meets something. It isn't a series, but reading the summary it looked really good. The mermaid princess kills princes and her mother punishes her for something and is now a human sentenced to live on land until she can kill the prince in their kingdom. The prince finds a girl drowning and she vows to help him kill the mermaids to save his kingdom. Coincidence? I think not... seems good and I am wondering how the author is going to pull it off.

'Carve the Mark' by Veronica Roth

Another book by Veronica Roth who is the author of the famous Divergent Series. In this book duology, as it is called, two people from different planets find themselves on the same one somehow, originally hating ech other because of their heritage but finding love with one another. Each of them also has a power, one to cause pain and one to cause relief. It seems like a very interesting concept and it's not really a series, but it looks very interesting.

'Dragonfly' by Julia Golding

So I hate cheesy romance novels where they put a boy and girl together and make them fall in love, but this looks pretty good. A prince and princess of different lands sworn to each other by their parents and hate each other on sight. Then they both get kidnapped and have to get out together. I can't wait to see their relationship develop unlike most cheesy romance novels.

'Sky in the Deep' by Adrienne Young

In a country where two clans have rivaled for generations, a girl named Eelyn is a warrior at age 17 who joins the others on the battlefield to find her brother who she believed to be dead and is now fighting with the opposing side. Faced with betrayal, she must survive the winter in the forest near the opposing clan. The clans get attacked by another village and Eelyn must get back to her family somehow, but where do her loyalties lie? With her brother she is now starting to trust? Her brother's friend she is starting to love? Or her family she has grown with?

'Rebel of the Sands' by Alwyn Hamilton

This is about a desolate place where if you are a girl, orphaned, or poor, you're screwed, and that is where the main character is at, but she has a gunslinging talent that might be her ticket out of here. This seems like an interesting read that doesn't have much romance, which I think we all need cause this list is full of: surprise! the main girl has to fall in love with someone!

'The Young Elites' by Marie Lu

A virus has struck children and the ones to survive have new scars on their bodies and newfound powers. This story follows three teenagers who are very powerful and are being held by the government. They need to figure out who to trust and what to fight for.

'Shadowshaper'

This story seems confusing, but it looks cool. It starts off with a girl who likes to graffiti walls around the city and somehow between that and the one who paints them there is a shape-shifting element with it. The world this girl is brought into brings up many questions about her heritage and why people are killing off shadowshapers.

'An Ember in the Ashes' by Sabaa Tahir

This story takes place in the Rome Era, and a girl and a boy are fighting for their lives by being a slave and a soldier under the government. They are trying to escape the tyranny of their captors by not trying to be rebels. When they meet, their choices will change the fate of the Empire, and their lives.

'Prism: The Color Alchemists' by Nina Walker

So, Nina Walker is a new upcoming author who is trying really hard. She published her own book, which is awesome, but it might be because she isn't the best author I've ever seen. She's not descriptive enough, she jumps to conclusions really fast, and the dialogues almost make no sense. With that being said, however, there were twists and turns you weren't expecting, and the plot is very interesting despite its flaws. It's about a girl who finds out that she is a color alchemist—someone who can wield colors and manipulate them to do as they please. Each color has its own properties though. As she fights to go back home, for color alchemists aren't welcome in the community (they are the governments property), she is cast into the rebellion seeing that the king is actually killing the country instead of making it better.
