Please Note: This article is for the game Fish Tycoon 2 from Big Fish Games. It can not and should not be applied to breeding real live fish.

How to Breed a Fin Type Into Another Species

If you need a specific Fin Type to fill your 'Findex' but can't breed the right fin from what you can hatch from the eggs. Then it's time to start breeding different species together. This is a two part task. The first part is to find out what two species make the species you need. The second part you need to find the right find the right fin combination. Once you have both of these formulas, then you can go ahead and put them together.

For example:

  • Beta + Carp = Carp
  • Silky + Serrated = Peachy
  • Silky Beta + Serrated Carp = Peachy Carp

For this example I am going to use the Snout Fish. The Snout Fish comes in a limited variety of fins from eggs. Which means in order to discover and unlock all the fish variations ... you have to breed new fin types into the species just to get the final achievement of unlocking all 400 species.

Getting The Rusty Snoutfish

The perfect example is the Rusty Snout, it is a particularly frustrating fish to unlock and I will show you why. Just below is one of the patterns for getting a Rusty Fin. While getting the Rusty Snout, chances are that you will unlock a few other fish on the way.

Rusty Fin Breeding Plan

  • Silky + Bluetip = Oriental
  • Oriental and Bluetip = Crimson
  • Crimson + BlueTip = Rusty

Starting With a Silky Snoutfish

So as we can see above, we need a Silky Snoutfish ... but we can't get one from hatching eggs? So what do we do? We breed our own Snoutfish!

A catfish and a goldshark are one of the combinations that make a snoutfish. Keep in mind that we don't necessarily need a Silky Goldshark and a Silky Catfish to get a Silky Snoutfish. Another possible combination is ... well, actually the only other combination to get silky fins is Silky + Hooked. So I could also work with a Hooked GoldShark and a Silky Snoutfish.

Hooked Catfish + Silky Goldshark = Silky Snoutfish

Note: You can get a Goldshark from uncommon eggs and you can get Catfish from rare eggs.

Back to that Rusty Snout

So now that we have our Silky Snout, we can finally put the original plan back into motion.

  • Silky Snout + Bluetip Snout = Oriental Snout
  • Oriental Snout and Bluetip Snout = Crimson Snout
  • Crimson Snout+ BlueTip Snout= Rusty Snout

Congratulations, you now have one of the most rare fish in the game, a Rusty SnoutFish.

Next example, getting the Daffodil Carp.

Here the game plan for getting the Daffodil Fin.

  • Silky + Rusty = Canary
  • Silky + Canary = Daffodil

First things first, getting the Silky Carp.

Just like the Rusty Snout, the Silky Fin is the same root cause that is preventing us from getting the more rare fins. Since breeding the silky fin with just carps seems impossible, then will just have to breed it in using another species.

  • Carp + Beta = Carp
  • Beta + Leaffish = Carp
  • Rainbow + Spotanus = Carp
  • Comet + Spotanus = Carp

As we already noticed earlier, there are only two possible fin combinations get silky fins.

  • Silky + Hooked = Silky
  • Silky + Silky = Silky

Here is an easy solution to all this chaos!

Eventually, I was able to figure it out and this is what I did. I started by hatching the red common eggs until I got a silky beta. Then I started hatching the purple rare eggs until I got an Imperial Carp.

  • Silky Beta + Imperial Carp = Hooked Carp
  • Silky Beta + Hooked Carp = Silky Carp

Congratulations on getting the Silky Carp! Now it's time for the final steps.

  • Silky Carp + Rusty Carp = Canary Carp
  • Silky Carp + Canary Carp = Daffodil Carp

I hope this helps you get that last achievement in Fishing Tycoon 2.

Keep Gaming!
