Done With 'Breath of the Wild' and 'Horizon: Zero Dawn'? These Games Will Hold You Over Until 'Mass Effect: Andromeda'

Due to how large scale 'Horizon: Zero Dawn' and 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' are, the scope of a game that will live up to their size is a difficult find.

You've done it. Much like myself, you've hit that point of no return. You've completed your game and now you're sitting in your couch with your head in your hands. The ending you've been holding off on has hit you, as has the reality that the game is over. The stories have been phenomenally praised and lived up to your expectations — but you still have one week left until Mass Effect: Andromeda launches. One week 'til you can witness firsthand the continuation of a beloved franchise.

Due to how large scale Horizon Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are, the scope of a game that will live up to their size is a difficult find. It's become next to impossible to sate that desire for open exploration and find a distance from #BreathoftheWild's infuriating rain mechanics. So what else is there to do? Well, going outside and getting some fresh air could be one thing. Picking up a book, or even going to see that Logan film that everyone is talking about could be another. If that's not your thing, then here are a few games, old and new, that will keep you busy for the next week until #MassEffectAndromeda finally drops.

1. Far Cry Primal (2016)

If you're craving the hunt for large game and pillaging supplies for your survival, then Far Cry Primal is surely the game for you. Developed by Crytek and Ubisoft, this action adventure sends players back to the Stone Age of 10,000 BC and forces you to survive treacherous lands with only prehistoric weaponry at your disposal. The added bonus of #FarCryPrimal is that you can tame wild animals, including saber-toothed wildcats. How awesome is that?

2. ReCore (2016)

OK, OK, so it's not strictly an RPG-style game. However, it's one that approaches a dystopian future where Earth has been ravaged by the Dust Devil Plague, which forced humanity off our uninhabitable orb and to a new planet called Far Eden. In #ReCore you'll assume the role of adventurer Joule, who seeks the truth about her past, the worlds past, and even what the future will hold for humanity.

Joule's story is one of lies, deceit, and a truth she may not want to unearth in this action-platforming title published by Microsoft Studios. This world is massive and enjoyable for those looking for some cheap thrills.

3. Rise Of The Tomb Raider (2015)

Among this style of game comes one of the best franchises in which to explore open worlds. In #RiseoftheTombRaider players once again resume the role of Lara Croft who, in this newer title, is tackling adventure unlike ever before.

Her quest? To stop a mysterious faction known as Trinity that is on the hunt for supernatural ancient artifacts. You'll travel across Siberia in a bid to discover the truth behind the Prophet of Constantinople. #LaraCroft is also looking for the truth behind her father's murder and how the enigmatic Ana is linked to all the happenings. If climbing, solving puzzles, and shooting is your idea of a good time, then this is the game for you.

4. Xenoblade Chronicles X (2015)

Nintendo finally gets some love on this list. #XenobladeChroniclesX is an open-world sci-fi adventure in which once again, players are removed from Earth. With the planet decimated by two warring alien races, humanity was forced to flee in the year 2054 on interstellar ark ships.

Now that humanity has a new home on the planet Mira, players will take time to explore this new world — one filled with quests and unimaginable horrors in which you'll fight for survival against new creatures, new mechs and brutal alien races. However, the enemy is one no one would ever expect in this open-world #RPG. So sit back, buckle into your Skell and prepare for battle.
