Does Happy Fishing Use False Advertising?

#Apps

I kept seeing these ads pop up for a game that lets you make money just for playing the game. I use the app Gold Miner, so this concept didn't seem completely obscure to me. I gave it a try and made sure to write down the results, as well as my thoughts on the game.

What is it?

Happy Fishing by Fishing King Studio is an app that claims to pay you simply for playing their game. In the game, you play as a fisherman who catches fish, treasure chests of lies, and of course... little bottles with cash in them. The game can connect to your Paypal and... eventually... send you real money in your currency.

How does it work?

The concept of the game is very simple and easy to play. First, you click a big yellow button that reads "Go Fish." The fishing line is then cast down as deep as your current "Fishing Equipment" upgrade will allow you. You can use your finger to move the hook to catch the fish you want; after all, the rainbow fish are worth more in-game points. You can also sometimes just leave the hook alone and let it collect whatever is in the center. Since the in-game points don't affect any real earnings... it doesn't really matter.

Every now and again, a "Cash Bottle" appears near the "Go Fish" button. If you click on it before you press the "Go Fish" button, then the cash bottle will appear underwater near the very beginning of your reel in... but you only get one bottle. If you forget to click on the cash bottle, don't worry... it will still be there for your next line cast.

Next, while reeling in your line, you need to catch the bottle by using your finger to move the hook towards it. If for some reason you miss the cash bottle, still don't worry... it seems to appear again faster if you missed it the last time.

The Treasure Chests ...

Don't be fooled by the treasure chests, you have to watch an ad to open them and obtain any real money whatsoever. The only things you can get are either "The Golden Hook" or a "Cash Bag." Both of which only help you get more in-game currency. It is a chest of lies!

"Earn coins even when you are idle and offline!"

This statement is found on the Happy Fishing Google Play page. I just want to clarify that the "coins" you earn while offline are an in-game currency only. You can use the currency to upgrade your fisherman gear; however, there is no relation to these coins and how much money you actually earn.

"You'll earn more the deeper you get into the water."

While I can't prove it anymore, I seem to remember an ad telling me that the longer I play, the more I'll "earn." However, this ad must have solely been referring to the in-game currency only. This is borderline false advertising... I think Fishing King Studio is really testing the limits here.

The actual bottle itself gets bigger the further I fish, but that's it.

I want to make this as clear as possible, there is no elation to upgrading your gear and earning more real money. The longer you play, the less real money you make, not more.

Why does the app always open two pages???

Every time I go to close the app, I notice that Happy Fishing has two pages open. I have never seen another app do this before! Why could this possibly be? Why does it happen every time?

Making less and less money...

At first my "catches" were 10-12 cents each, but as I continued to play the game they dropped down to 4-6 cents each.

The cash bottles show up way less frequently the more you play the game, and the amount you make most certainly goes down.

The Very Annoying Ads

It makes sense that the app uses ads to make its income, especially when they claim to be paying their users to play the game... but the ads pop up way more than they should. Especially when they keep showing the same ads over and over again.

The first thing you see when you open the app is a small ad. Then after getting your "away from app" points. You immediately get offered to watch another ad in order to double your "in-game only" cash.

You might think that you could avoid watching ads just simply by clicking 'nope' every time the game offers you double points... but that is NOT the case. Ads will pop up all the time. Sometimes even twice, one right after the other. An ad will pop up when you first open the game, more ads pop up when you finish your "reel in," and, of course, at least this one makes sense. You be forced to watch an add in order to open the "cash bottle."

I thought that maybe if I agree to ads for double points that the ads would pop up less... but they didn't. I was wrong. You can't avoid the ads, they are put into the game. However, if you are lucky, your ad will just be an image that you can click 'X' on right away and not 5-30 second videos. The worst of the bunch are the ones that force you to play a terrible little mini game in order to advertise for a bad game that doesn't even promise to pay you eventually.

Yes! Happy Fishing is using False Advertising!

They are pushing the legal limits and the advertisements for this app are very misleading. It was a sketchy app before and now it's giving people even more reasons not to trust them.

Legit... but only barely

Honestly, this app might not be worth your time. Fishing King Studios certainly seems to be pushing the lines on what is legal and even moral. However, at least there is no risk with spending real money on this app. Unless of course you buy something that is being advertised :P

Just don't fall for all the cash you earn the first you play, it's an illusion.

Hello. Nice to meet you! How are you? Hmm... this feels like a really once-sided conversation... why don't you follow me on social media so I can get to know you, too?!
