1. Start with Common Fish

Start simple by using Red Eggs only. You will have lots of opportunity to hatch blue and purple eggs later, trust me.

2. Breed and Sell Magic Fish to make money fast.

The Magic Fish of Nutrition is a common fish, so once you have two you just keeping breeding and selling them. It's a great way to make money early on in the game. If you want to read a step-by-step guide on how to make money the fastest way possible, just click the link below.

3. Upgrade, Upgrade, Upgrade!

You NEED more equipment and higher more research done if you want to keep those rare fish alive. In order to progress in the game, you need to upgrade. It's probably for the best to upgrade your tanks before getting too invested in breeding new types of fish.

4. There are 4 fin types that are a challenge to get for almost every species: BlueTip, Razorback, Hooked and Tangerine.

Here is a quick reference to getting these tricky Fin Types:

  • Spined + Greenfin = BlueTip
  • Striped + Peachy = Razorback
  • Striped + Bluetip = Tangerine
  • Silky + Peachy = Hooked

5. Use the Magic Fish Effects

One magic fish gives you an extra baby per pregnant fish, 3 different magic fish help you maintain your fishes health and one has all of the magic effects put together. If you want to read more about the magic fish, check out the link below.

6. Breed and Sell the Golden Guppy to make even more money

At this point in the game, you should be ready to dedicate an entire tank to Golden Guppies.

7. The Breeding Paradox

  • Hooked + Daffoldil = Peachy
  • Silky + Peachy = Hooked

Sometimes you will run into a circle, or a paradox, meaning you will find that in order to get the hooked fin you will need the peachy fin ... but in order to get the peachy fin you need the hooked fin. This a real example that I ran into and there are 3 different ways to deal with this problem.

The first solution is to try to make another breeding plan.

If that doesn't work, the second solution is to hatch more eggs and hope to get one of the needed fin types.

The last solution is a bit longer of a strategy that you were probably hoping for. The last solution is to breed the fin type in by breeding other species. I further explain this in the next point, number 8.

8. In order to get all the species, you need to breed some fin types into certain species.

9. Know The 'Breeding' Outcomes Ahead of Time

10. Have Fun!

Last, but not least, don't forget to have fun! It is a game after all, so you should be having fun while playing it.

Other Useful Tips and Information

How do you get all the Silky finned fish?

Simple. For tricky fins like Silky you need to breed by fin type instead of by species. Hatch red eggs until you get 2 or 3 silky finned fish. Then breed only silky fish with each other (or with Hooked fish). This part gets a little gross, but you can continue by breeding the parents with their off spring and the by breeding the offspring with each other. Before you know it you will be unlocking new fish species like crazy.

One of the most commonly asked for breeding solutions:

CatFish + Comet = Goldenshark

Beta + Pufferfish = Leaf Fish

Golden Shark + Leaf Fish = Rainbowfish

Commonly asked for breeding solutions for fish fins:

Some fins are much more common than others, for those few tricky fins that seems to stumble everyone at least once ... here is a quick reference guide that you can come look back to while trying to get every breed of fish. I hope this helps!
