Would you believe that most things we consider modern was invented nearly 100 years ago? It seems unbelievable, but we are living a hundred years into the future. The following were inventions that were invented around a hundred years ago.

1 the Aeroplane: invented in December 17, 1903

“If God intended for humans to fly, he would have given us wings!” That was spoken to The Wright brothers, Orville Wright (August 19, 1871 – January 30, 1948) and Wilbur Wright (April 16, 1867 – May 30, 1912), were American aviation pioneers generally credited with inventing, building, and flying the world's first successful motor-operated airplane. But they overcame such criticism and invented the first well working aeroplane, leading some to say “If God intended for humans to fly, he would have made it easier to get to the airport”.

2 the Car: invented in January 29, 1886

Carl Benz applied for a patent for his “vehicle powered by a gas engine.” In July 1886 the newspapers reported on the first public outing of the three-wheeled Benz Patent Motor Car, model no.

The Model T was introduced to the world in 1908. Henry Ford wanted the Model T to be affordable, simple to operate, and durable. The vehicle was one of the first mass production vehicles, allowing Ford to achieve his aim of manufacturing the universal car.

Today their are several car manufacturing companies all over the world, from icons like FORD, CHEVROLET, FERRARI, TESLA, CADILLAC, and many more. Modern cars are also very innovative, self driving, electric, and practically a computer on wheels.

3 the telephone: invented in March 10, 1876

The first discernible speech is transmitted over a telephone system when inventor Alexander Graham Bell summons his assistant in another room by saying, “Mr. Watson, come here; I want you.” Bell had received a comprehensive telephone patent just three days before. In the 1930s, it was common to see rotary phones in people's homes. Many think of this type of phone as the first “modern” telephone because you would speak into and listen from the same unit. First Touchscreen Phone (1992)

The IBM Simon was the first of its kind when it came out in 1992. This phone was the 1992 version of today's I-Phone. It was touch screen, portable, had a calculator, email, and could work on networks. Then 2007 saw the first I-phones, now we can send a ‘tweet’, play on an app, ‘FaceTime’, there is nearly unlimited uses for your I-phone, that didn’t even exist seventeen years ago.

4 the radio: invented in 1895

In 1895, a young Italian named Gugliemo Marconi invented what he called “the wireless telegraph” while experimenting in his parents house, up in the attic. He used radio waves to transmit Morse code and the instrument he used became known as the radio. On the evening of December 24, 1906, Reginald Fessenden used the alternator-transmitter to send out a short program from Brant Rock. It included a phonograph record of Ombra mai fu (Largo) by George Frederic Handel, followed by Fessenden playing the song ‘Holy Night’ on the violin.

5 plastic: invented in 1907

Belgian chemist and clever marketeer Leo Baekeland pioneered the first fully synthetic plastic in 1907. He beat James Swinburne, to the patent office by one day. His invention, combined two chemicals, formaldehyde and phenol, under heat and pressure. And boom! Plastic was made. Plastic would soon rise to be one of the most industrialized products, form toys, storage containers, water bottles, and others. Plastic help gave rise to 3D printing, and really modernized the world. But for all the pros of plastic there is more than one con, plastic does not decompose. This means that all plastic that has ever been produced and has ended up in the environment is still present in one form or another.

It’s been a long hundred years, drought with many mishaps and wars. Roaring Twenties, rise of cinema, great depression, WWII, Korean War, nuclear threats, modern media, and many, many more. All of these modern marvels that define our modern world were already invented, it’s just that we’ve only begun to perfect them. Who knows? Maybe the world would look drastically different a hundred years from now.
