The Hypocrisy of Christmas

This is a season where many are not true to their personal beliefs

“Christmas a humbug uncle?” This is the question that was posed to Ebenezer Scrooge by his nephew. Truthfully the December 25th holiday has turned into just that. The original purpose of the holiday was to put focus on the birth of Christ and get people’s minds off the revelry that occupied the celebration of the winter solstice. This bright idea that was begun by Christians has turned the world upside down.

Today many who do not believe in Christ have the most fun with parties, gift giving, dressing up and enjoying the day that was begun by Christians for their God. In addition there are a growing number of Christians today who say that December 25 is not the day Jesus was born and that many of the traditions are rooted in paganism. Some say that the Bible does not command that believers celebrate the day Christ was born. The Bible does not say to go to a building every Sunday morning at 11:00 AM either but millions do.

So we have atheists, agnostics and people of other faiths shouting Merry Christmas although they do not believe Jesus is the Savior as do Christians. Some believers say the word Christmas means Christ’s mass which is indicating to kill Him. Others say Christ means the Anointed One and mas is Spanish for more, therefore they say Christmas means more of the Anointed One.

People who don’t believe in Jesus are saying Merry Christmas-more of Christ and those who worship Him want nothing to do with the holiday that was begun in His honor. One group wants the celebration with Christ and the other wants Jesus without the holiday. Stuck in the middle are Christians saying the secular world is X-ing Christ out of His day but guess what? C is the Greek letter for Christ so saying Xmas is honoring Him and not taking Him out of Christmas.

People are free to do whatever they choose but how hypocritical is it for people who don’t believe in Jesus to be saying Merry Christmas, while those who are Christians have a chip on their shoulder and want nothing to do with December 25th. They say the letters in Santa also spell Satan and that Santa Claus takes the focus away from Christ. These same people will sit in churches week after week listening to messages about how to serve the pastor and make him a millionaire and never complain that Jesus is being kicked to the curb.

In many churches pastures tell congregants not to spend money on gifts for family for the holiday but to make sure they pay their tithes and offerings. And of course have a special financial gift for the first family. Laugh out Loud. Don’t shop for loved ones but give to the church, the pastor and his family. How hypocritical is that?

In the midst of the pull and tug in every direction there are those who quietly observe the day without much fanfare. They realize that December 25th is but one day and in the 26th it’s all over. Little Linus on A Charlie Brown Christmas, Ebenezer Scrooge and the Grinch have been telling us for many years what the season is suppose to be about and millions watch them each Christmas season but their message gets lost in the shuffle. I’m sure none of this is what was intended by those who began the celebration, but it’s what we have now. Yes it’s gotten out of hand but remember the old adage. You can’t stop the birds from flying over your head but you can keep them from building a nest.

Please be advised, this article is an over view of what is taking place during the holiday season and does not indicate me personal belief about this time of year. This information is meant to enforce and enlighten but not to offend. Havin said that: MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
