Marcus woke up in the nurse's office with a pounding headache.

“Your mom is on her way to pick you up,” Mrs. Patsy said. “When you walked in this time, you were pale and clammy.”

“Walked in here?” Marcus asked, confused.

“Yes you were sent here from Mrs. Blank’s class,” the nurse replied.

Mrs. Blank is his communications teacher who specialized in spelling and computers. Each day they would learn spelling words from her as well as practice typing on the computers. Once a week they would also learn some of the Microsoft Office programs.

Marcus was at a complete loss of words. The last thing he could remember was turning around to look behind him. Then he had his dream again. How could he have been in Mrs. Blank’s class? So he just lay there and stared at the ceiling for a bit.

“Another thing Marcus, your classmate Jeff said your eyes were all white,” the nurse added.

This caught Marcus’ attention and he looked over at Mrs. Patsy with concern on his face. “He said what?” he asked.

“You are okay now, and your temperature is perfectly normal. Would you like another ice pop while you wait for your mom to arrive?” Mrs. Patsy asked with a smile.

“No thank you,” Marcus huffed out.

Marcus re-focused on the ceiling deep in thought. ‘What is going on with me?’ he thought.

Marcus lay there for what felt like an eternity waiting for his mom to arrive. Then he heard her voice outside of the room talking to someone, “What do you mean his eyes were all white?” she asked someone.

“That is just what I heard ma’am,” replied a man’s voice. “Regardless he was sweating profusely in Mrs. Blank’s class so his friend Jeff walked him down.”

His mother then entered the room shortly after looking worried as she approached the bedside. “Are you okay Marcus?”

The nurse cut in, “All of his vitals are fine and after he laid there in the bed for a few minutes he stopped sweating and his color came right back.”

“I have a terrible headache though,” Marcus added.

“Well, I am here to sign you out for the day. So you can come home and rest for a bit,” his mom said with concern.

Marcus smiled. It sounded like a good plan to go relax after the day he had so far.

“Here is some Tylenol Marcus,” Mrs. Patsy said, handing him some cherry flavored chewable tablets.

“Thank you Mrs. Patsy,” Marcus said with a forced smile.

Mrs. Patsy smiled back and went over to her counter to get a clipboard. Handing the clipboard to his mother she said pointing to the clipboard, “Just write his name here, sign here and date here Mrs. Lawrence.”

As she signed his mother asked, “Yesterday he wasn’t feeling well either and complained of a headache, do you think I should take him to see a doctor?”

“I’m fine mom!” said Marcus.

“I think he just needs rest,” added the nurse.

With that Marcus slid off of the bed onto the floor. His bag was resting against the bed, so he reached down to pick it up. “I need to stop at my locker to get my math book,” he stated as he rolled his eyes. “I also have to get my reading book too.”

“Okay,” his mom said.

The pair began to walk out of the room and thanked Mrs. Patsy on the way out. Marcus’ locker was near his math class, so they needed to walk to the left a bit, which luckily was also on the way to the front door to exit.

As they reached the locker, a head appeared around the corner of an open classroom. “Hello Marcus,” said Ms. Laurel with a smile.

Marcus replied with uncertainty, “Hello Ms. Laurel, umm, this is my mom!”

“Nice to meet you Mrs. Lawrence!” She said, extending her hand for a handshake.

Mrs. Lawrence shook the teacher's hand with a smile, “Nice to meet you Ms. Laurel!”

“Your son is a fine young man,” Ms. Laurel added. Turning to Marcus she said, “Don’t worry about that math homework tonight, you deserve a break!”

Marcus looked at her bewildered for a moment. Then he took his math book from his locker and shoved it into his bag. ‘It must be some twisted trick,’ he thought. “Thank you Ms. Laurel, but I don’t want to miss out on my studies,” he replied.

“Ready to go?” his mother asked.

Marcus nodded and zipped up his Jansport, tossing one strap over his shoulder. “See you tomorrow Ms. Laurel,” he said.

“It was a pleasure meeting you Mrs. Lawrence,” she replied as she waved to the pair as they made their way to the exit.

Marcus glanced over his shoulder to see her standing in her classroom doorway waving still as his mom opened the doors in front of them. ‘What is going on?’ he thought. Then he turned and exited through the open door followed by his mom.
