Itchy to watch an anime that is science fiction? Here are some great starters!

When I am looking for a science fiction type show, I am always looking for a show in space, or discovering the next time machine, etc. Somehow, I am always getting more fantasy like fairies and elves. That may not be correct, but that is my understanding. So here are some sci-fi shows!

'Cowboy Bebop'

I have only watched a couple of episodes, but it's about a group of bounty hunters, of sorts, who go from planet to planet in their spaceship! The anime is pretty old, but it is still really good and has a lot of character! The plot is good and if you like space travel then this is the one for you!

'Trigun'

Trigun is about a futuristic world where there's a man named Vash the Stampede. He is worth 60 trillion double dollars, aka $30 trillion. You'll have to watch to find out how this cowboy town creates a sci-fi vibe. It's an older anime, so the animation isn't the clearest, but the story line is good, it's funny, has an interesting plot line, and a lot of character development. It's on Funimation right now too!

'Steins:Gate'

I personally haven't watched this show, but I hear that it is very good! This is based on a video game about changing the past. A group of kids discover and develop technology that helps them change the past. The anime is non-linear, so it might be hard to follow, but if you're into that you will enjoy this anime! I find it confusing, but if that's what you're into go for it!

'Psycho Pass'

So this one is about technology that tells you if you are going to commit a crime or not. It reads the psychology of your brain and gives you a pass or not. They are always evaluating themselves trying to be sane and keeping each other sane. It's a bit hard to start, I thought, but it gets really good and makes you try to think if you are sane.

'Gurren Lagann'

So, I've only seen the first episode, and it doesn't give much detail except for the fact that there are giant mechs that fight! There is a fun bromance involved, there is a lot of fighting and danger, and it's also pretty funny and has character building.

'Chrome Shelled Regios'

This show is about a future world where there are towns in chrome shells. The reason being is that there are monsters on the outside that destroy and kill everything in its sight. So the Regios equip themselves with powerful warriors and have academies where they go to learn to fight these monsters. That's all I'm going to say because it has a lot of plot twists and romance mixed with drama.

'Sword Art Online'

So this anime is about VR. Virtual Reality is now like real life. This new technology puts you in the video game and resembles everything about you and the virtual world you have been thrust in. There's one catch. They can't get out until they finish the game. They go on a lot of adventures and romance is always sparking! It's a pretty popular anime and there are a couple seasons! I just saw the first one, but I thought it was very fun and mostly light!

'Assassination Classroom'

I love this anime. It really made me change my outlook on life. Like seriously. It was the best show I've ever seen. In a normal world, an assassin who can move at mach 20 is created and asks to be a teacher to a group of misfit kids. Weird... but in the last couple episodes it all makes sense. So this group of students is curated to assassinate this monster because he says that he will destroy everyone and the world in one year! It's very thought-provoking and you get to see a lot of character development and it actually finishes out, not leaving you hanging which is nice! Give it try!

'Darker than Black'

This is an intense show involving a group of powered people. There is a group of contractors who have special powers, but they are used as assassins. There are many sub-stories involved and it is a bit confusing in the beginning because it just jumps right into it like most anime. The sci-fi aspect of it is the people and their special abilities. They are able to do things that are inhumanely possible and there are people who aren't even people. It's very intense, so if you want an anime to think about this is the one!

'Full Metal Panic'

This is about two military groups who are fighting against one another and their greatest asset is a girl who has special powers. The good side is protecting her with a personal security guard named Sosuke. As Sosuke protects the girl, Chidori, they also have to go to battle with the other side and do so with mechs! Which is where the sci-fi comes in. The world is the essentially like any other, but there is high-tech technology including coding, military advances, mechs, etc. It's full of action, romance, and danger! It also has a few seasons which is great and the story isn't over!
