Tarot Tip 1

Finding the right deck

Whether you are someone who is in tune with their intuition OR you need images to help you read the cards, it's important to find a deck that resonates with you.

Here are five of my recommendations that might be great for your first deck. Of course, it's important to do your own research too.

Deck Recommendations:

Modern Witch Tarot - Zulily

Luna Sol Tarot - Mike Medaglia

Rider-Waite Tarot

Everyday Witch Tarot - Deborah Blake

Morgan Greer Tarot

Tarot Tip 2

Keep it simple

When you're starting out it's important to keep things simple.

Have a deck that is simple and easy to read.

Do simple spreads (one or three-cards)

Use simple meanings.

By keeping it simple you will slowly grow more confident, and a confident tarot reader is always the best kind. It will help you to be sure of your intuition, and by trusting your intuition you'll be able to read the cards so easily.

Tarot Tip 3

Understanding the suits

Each tarot suit in the Minor Arcana represents things in our lives that we deal with nearly every day - our emotions, thoughts, the material world, and our passion or will power - just to name a few.

So when doing a spread it's important to take note of what suit is either lacking or popping up during the reading.

For example, a lack of cups could be a lack of emotion in the situation. Or an abundance of swords could mean mental struggles and the need for a solution to put the mind at ease.

What each suit represents

Cups

  • Emotions
  • Relationships
  • Feelings
  • Intuition

Swords

Tarot Tip 4

The court cards

The court cards in a reading can represent a person, a situation, or yourself. If the court card represents a person then it might be that they match the personality type or behaviour of that particular court card.

It can also represent their physical appearance.

If it's a situation, for example, a knight might mean you're pursuing a goal, and a page could mean the offer of an opportunity.

Use your intuition to figure out what a court card represents in the reading.

Tarot Tip 5

Learning the numbers

Tarot numerology is an important part of learning the cards. When you take note of the numbers during a reading it can give an even more in-depth meaning.

Ace through to ten tells a story of each suit. Cups is about the progress of relationships. Swords is about our thoughts and mental state. Pentacles is about the material world. And wands is about will power and creation.

Ace

  • beginning
  • opportunity
  • potential

Two

Four

  • stagnant

Five

  • chaos

Six

  • success
  • achievement

Seven

  • wisdom
  • decisions
  • planning

Eight

  • strength
  • direction
  • control

Nine

  • fulfillment
  • contemplation
  • satisfaction

Ten

  • completion
  • endings
  • transformation

Tarot Tip 6

Major Arcana

The Major Arcana cards represent life lessons we all experience. They come with messages and guidance.

And when we look through the cards we can see a story playing out - it's called the fools journey.

When a Major Arcana comes out in a reading it's a sign that there needs to be some reflection on a life lesson related to the specific cards that have popped up.

It could even be there to give much-needed guidance, or it might be about something big coming up in the person's life.

Tarot Tip 7

The book VS your intuition

A guidebook is always helpful to begin with, but don't allow it to become your safety net. You need to learn to start relying on your intuition.

And don't throw the whole book away! Just stop using it all the time.

So when should you use the guidebook?

If you feel stuck on a card and don't remember the meaning of it, that is totally fine. It happens to us.

When should you use your intuition to read the cards?

All the time! At first, you might feel unsure if your intuition is correct but you'll be surprised what can happen when you start tuning in and relying on it.
