Magical Enkindling
Vivian paused at the alleyway entrance, readjusting her cloak around her slender frame and pulling the hood further over her raven colored hair, feeling insecure about her ability to cover her identity even in the darkness provided on the night of the new moon. She stared across the road at the tavern entrance, knowing that Thomas was there, throwing his newfound wealth around after accepting the role of the King’s head mage for the third night in a row. Anger shot through her again as she thought back to how he had claimed credit for everything after stealing her creations.

I have never much been one for horoscopes. I tend to be much more scientifically minded. When I look to the sky, it is not for the purpose of gaining insight to my personality, but rather to gain a peek at planets, comets, and Messier objects. I am also one of those who emits steam from their ears whenever someone says “astronomy” when they mean “astrology,” and vice versa.

When I received a holo-notification that only $20k arrived into my account, I felt a panicked flutter in my throat. Reflexively, I pressed my index fingers to my eyes and removed my smart-lenses.

Rebecca gazed serenely at a Hawksbill sea turtle as it went about the shipwreck in search of marine algae to eat. She quickly shook her head clear; she had a job to do and a nasty habit of getting sidetracked. She had come to Queensland, Australia to research the SS Yongala, a century old freight steamer that became a popular dive spot for travellers.

Kal was stocking shelves. This was his least favorite part of the job. He enjoyed the customer service element, helping people solve their problems. At an arts and crafts store there was always a parade of characters with questions. The most annoying customers were those who really just wanted him to do their project for them. He would sometimes indulge the pushy old ladies or lazy teenagers, and go beyond his job description by helping them cut foam boards or even drawing out schematics for their projects. This was not why he had gone to art school, but he had a hard time utilizing the word no, and it was better than unpacking boxes.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has to be of the most popular Star Wars films in the Disney/Lucasfilm era. Reactions to The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker of the sequel trilogy in the Skywalker saga have been all over the place, though one could argue that the spin-off films have more of a strong following. Even if Solo: A Star Wars Story was the first box office flop in the Star Wars franchise, the film gained an audience on home media months later. However, Rogue One was a success from the start, with a very strong critical response, good worldwide box office results, and positive feelings from fans. But there were several other titles that were explored for Gareth Edwards' blockbuster.

Adralia felt no remorse for what she had done to obtain one of the most powerful devices in all the known universes. During her one hundred and thirty-five life cycles as a Malaika, she had been forced to make many life and death decisions. Seemed lately, they were mostly death.

First things first. My sign of course is an Aquarius. We are known to be extremely progressive, intelligent, idealist, unique, and above all else independent. My elemental sign is Air, to me, that means we cannot be tamed or controlled. We live freely always, although we are very logical creatures. We are also known to be eccentric and we are known for our unusual hobbies and nonconformist attitude aside from being known for loving deeply, allowing people to experience the best of both worlds always, we are extremely creative people, sarcastic, and we definitely are not good liars. Some of our weaknesses are said to be that we run from emotional expression, we are temperamental and uncompromising.

The bucket was heavy even before it carried water. The rope that held it in Sarah’s hand was frayed from age and scratched the skin on her fingers pink. She could switch hands to share the burden, but then the gruff wooden lip of the bucket would leave identical bruises on both of her calves. These bruises were constantly renewed by her daily trips to the creek, so Sarah would always feel tender when pulling her stockings on in the mornings.

“Home sweet home!” Dad roared as we walked into the shadow of the old, ivory mansion, its wooden facade fading from white to dark green moss, and the colorless wisterias slowly turning yellow, like the crispy rug of grass on the front yard. Dad shook the silver keys in his hand, composing a bittersweet melody, and opened the heavy door. Mom and Dad gasped before they coughed as a dense cloud of dust rose and settled on the dark, wooden floor. Leaving the luggage by the door, they wandered around, loving every square inch of the immense house, the floor creaking and groaning under their every step. I did not love it. I didn’t like the funeral flowers above the door, or the sharp, crystal chandeliers hanging from the unnecessarily tall ceiling. This wasn’t home. Home was small and cozy, full of friends and neighbors. If we hadn’t won the lottery, we would still be there. I would’ve used the twenty thousand for my college, for a new car, or new smartphones, but starting a new life in a foreign country is hardly what I had in mind.

Awareness. Up from back. Voiceless thoughts. Primordial. Proprioceptive. Overwhelming white blur. Small green blur. Churning stomach. Hunger? No. Nausea. Mouth exit. Unpleasant, but relieving. Tingly feeling. Repose again. Restful black.
