The infirmary’s corridors were quiet as the lights flickered on whenever someone passed by. A nurse made her rounds, checking each patient to ensure they were comfortable. The last patient the nurse had to visit was an easy patient to check on.

A young girl that was about twelve years old laid in on the bed, but all was not well. This girl was in a coma and no one knew a single thing about her. They could only ensure that she was comfortable, and the nurse did exactly that. She was about to exit the room when a soft mumble was heard. The nurse spun around only to see that everything was as she left it. She quickly left the room to end her shift and go home.

When the room was empty, another soft mumble was heard. The girl’s fingers twitched ever so slowly. The heart monitor’s slow beeping changed to a rapid beep. The change alerted the doctors that the girl was awake from her coma. The girl soon gasped and bursted up in the bed right as the doctors entered the room. She breathed frantically as the strangers came closer to her.

They tried to reassure her with kind words, but the girl’s eyes told another story. Her fear turned into rage and she growled at the captors. They slowly came towards her, and that was their biggest mistake. The girl lunged at them, snarling as her form changed into a wolf as black as night. The attacks were quick and precise as the wolf made its way down the dark corridors.

Vixen sat in his office staring blankly at the paperwork he was to fill out. His thoughts were of his past, and how he so wanted to fix what had happened. The sounds of his office doors brought him out of thoughts. Nerok stood at the door and his face told Vixok that trouble was afoot.

“Take me to the problem.” Vixok said as he stood up.

Nerok and Vixok made their way to the infirmary, and once inside Vixok was truly shocked. A black wolf attacked everyone in its sight. Vixok made eye contact with the wolf, seeing the fear in its eyes. The wolf snarled as it charged towards Vixok. Nerok drew his sword, but Vixok placed his hand on his brother’s arm.

“No.” Vixok said.

Nerok protested, but to no avail. Vixok stood his ground as the wolf toppled him to the ground. The wolf snarled as it looked its prey in the eyes.

“We will not harm you.” Vixok spoke calmly.

The wolf continued to snarl, but released Vixok from its grip. Nerok drew his sword out once more, but Vixok stood in front of the wolf. Vixok advanced towards the wolf and it cowered as he got closer. The wolf soon ran off down the corridor with the army following its tail. They soon cornered the wolf in an empty room. They closed the door to prevent it from escaping.

“Did this room belong to someone?” Vixok asked.

“It was housing the girl in a coma, Sir.” a doctor responded.

Vixok smiled lightly as he began to open the door, but Nerok was quick to shut the door.

“Sir, you can not go in there!” Nerok exclaimed.

“Nerok, our guest is in there. She is very frightened right now, and I intend to assure her that we mean her no harm.” Vixok explained calmly as he opened the door once more.

Nerok tried to protest, but Vixok shut the door as soon as he entered the room. The still darkness easily hid the wolf, but all was quiet in the room. Vixok turned on the lights and saw the girl cowering begin the bed.

“Everything’s alright.” Vixok said kindly.

“I don’t know what you’re trying to do to me, but I don’t want any part in it. No more mutations!” the girl snarled.

“We do not work for Zark, I assure you.”

“Don’t lie to me!”

“I would never lie to anyone. Lying only leads to chaos.”

The girl stared at Vixok with curiosity.

“My name is Vixok.” he said calmly.

“Karen.” the girl said curtly.

“If you come with me, I can show you the planet you’re on.”

“You can’t trick me.” Karen snarled.

“Karen, my planet has been fighting against Zark for two decades. He is our enemy as well as yours. We will keep you safe here.” Vixok explained.

Karen sat still for a moment, contemplating whether she could trust this man. She slowly came out from behind the bed, staring at Vixok to see if he was going to hurt her.

“I promise you, Karen, you are safe.” Vixok said kindly.

Karen made her way to the door, and Vixok slowly opened it. The army was ready to strike, but Vixok held his hand up telling them to stop. He slowly led Karen away from the infirmary.
