Truth Behind an Old Saying

We have all heard the saying, “nice guys finish last.” My response to this came from a realization of why that saying is in fact true. Yes, nice guys do finish last… because we always make sure the woman finishes first. Of course, the saying was never meant to mean that. In fact, it was always meant as a negative thing. The saying generally refers to how guys who are nice and respectful, actually end up in the friend zone with women or hear those dreaded words, “you’re like a brother to me.” Which, no guy wants to hear; ever! Though in recent times, the attack on masculinity has gotten out of control, it still remains true that most women are still looking for a man to be a man. Also true is that too many women go for men who are not respectful or genuine to them.

I have always loved responding to the saying in this way because it puts an honest and positive spin on the original intent of nice guys finishing last. The day it hit me it almost seemed so obvious that I was surprised it wasn’t the original meaning all along. Yes, we nice and respectful men do finish last; only because we know and want to make sure that the woman finishes first.

More Than a Sexual Meaning

Of course, this response does refer to making sure that the woman has an orgasm first before we do, but the saying goes beyond that. This concept spills over into every aspect of being in a relationship with a woman. As “nice guys” we want to make sure that we support her dreams and her life goals. We recognize that part of our job as their partner is to lift them up whenever we can and get out of the way of their progress other times. Now, that’s not to say that a “nice guy” will allow a woman to walk all over him and take advantage of his kindness and affections. No, when that happens then the man has crossed over from “nice guy” to “doormat” which is never a good thing. All relationships should be an equal partnership at all times. It just means that we know that part of the equal partnership is sometimes fighting against her obstacles with her whenever she wants our help.

The men who are often labeled the “nice guy” are generally the most caring and giving lovers as well, so it does translate directly into the sexual aspects of being with a woman. This part of the equation should never be downplayed in any way. Women take a while to get warmed up and we nice guys are typically the best at warming her up in a natural and romantic way. Of course, that’s not to say we don’t enjoy the rough and raw too, but we are great at getting her ready for it in a way that is enjoyable. In fact, it could be said that many of the “nice guys” are actually lowkey freaks in bed.

Recap and Closing Thoughts

So, next time you hear or even say those words to a guy… “nice guys finish last” be sure to also remember what that really means and how it translates into what kind of man that person really is. Make sure that you acknowledge the depth and the positive shine that is put on that man for being a “nice guy” and knowing what the word gentleman really means.

If you are one of the “nice guys” in the world, and a woman walks away from you and chooses a man that is not in this category, then remember that you dodged a negative experience in that moment. If she doesn’t want a man who will treat her like a gentleman, then it never would have worked out anyway. You need to find a woman who appreciates a nice guy and knows what she has when you hold her. So, men… go… be a “nice guy.” Women, go and find you a “nice guy” and love him the way he will undoubtedly love you.
