I want you inside of me

A Lyric Analysis Of The Song “2 Become 1” By The Spice Girls

So, I’ve been listening to a lot of songs from my teendom lately because I’m a flawed human being and prefer to live in the past rather than looking forward to the scary-ass future.

I love jamming out to the classics like No Doubt and Sublime. However, I recently decided to venture into Spice Girls territory and happened upon one of my long-ago favourites, “2 Become 1”. I always thought that this song was so romantic—so sweet and, like, the perfect song to get it on to.

However, after listening to it as a 30-something (I mean that literally as I can’t remember how old I am and I’m too lazy to do the math), I’ve now got all sorts of opinions and theories on this weird piece of music.

Following is a lyrical breakdown of what comes to mind now as an adult while listening to this song.

If you’ve never taken a deep dive into the world of Spice, take a listen and feel free to cringe to the extreme.

Lyric Analysis #1—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

Candlelight and soul forever

A dream of you and me together

Say you believe it, say you believe it

Interpretation: If I tell you that we are meant to be together enough times, it will become true. There is no better way to woo the object of your affection than strong-arming them into believing it.

Lyric Analysis #2—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

Free your mind of doubt and danger

Be for real, don't be a stranger

We can achieve it, we can achieve it

Interpretation: Stop thinking of your girlfriend or your mom or that flattened raccoon you saw on the side of the highway that seemed to stare into your soul with its glazed-over dead eyes.

We gonna climax at the same time, biotch!

Lyric Analysis #3—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

Come a little bit closer, baby

Get it on, get it on

'Cause tonight is the night

When two become one

Interpretation: I want you inside of me.

Lyric Analysis #4—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

I need some love like I never needed love before

(Wanna make love to ya, baby)

I had a little love, now I'm back for more

(Wanna make love to ya, baby)

Set your spirit free, it's the only way to be

Interpretation: Enough of this coyness. I wanna do butt stuff. You in?

Lyric Analysis #5—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

Silly games that you were playin'

Empty words we both were sayin'

Let's work it out, boy, let's work it out, boy

Interpretation: Sure, you seemed dubious when I hinted at the fact that I’d enjoy it if you were to stick your dick in my ear and am proceed to give me a deep inner ear massage with your cock, while your balls slapped about my face wildly. I get it. It’s a strange request. But let’s agree to move past this. Let's figure this thing out, guy!

Lyric Analysis #6—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

Any deal that we endeavour

Boys and girls feel good together

Take it or leave it, take it or leave it

(later changed to)

Once again, if we endeavour

Love will bring us back together

Take it or leave it, take it or leave it

Interpretation: All I can say is, thank God they revised these lyrics. I can't even make fun of this shit. Because I’m pretty sure that two (or three, or four, five might be a bit much, but I’m not judging,) people feel good together. Get outta here with your outdated sexual limitations, Spice Girls.

Not to mention, the term "boys and girls" sounds way too infantile. Gross. That entire verse is just creeping me the F out, the more I think about it.

Lyric Analysis #7—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

Are you as good as I remember, baby?

Get it on, get it on

'Cause tonight is the night

When two become one

Interpretation: I remember that we had some crazy sex that one time we were super high on ecstasy. Let’s do that again. You didn’t even question the ear thing that night! It was glorious!

I want you inside of me, by any means necessary.

Lyric Analysis #8—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

I need some love like I never needed love before

(Wanna make love to ya, baby)

I had a little love, now I'm back for more

(Wanna make love to ya, baby)

Set your spirit free, it's the only way to be

Interpretation: Fuuuuuuuuck I’m horny. I tried to do it myself, but it just isn’t cutting it. Have you considered my proposition on the butt stuff?

Lyric Analysis #9—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

Ah, woah, ah, woah

Be a little bit wiser, baby

Put it on, put it on

'Cause tonight is the night

When two become one

Interpretation: Learn how to put a damn condom on properly, dude. We don’t need another pregnancy scare. If you’d just agree to the ear thing or the butt stuff, this wouldn't be a problem! I feel like I’m a broken record over here.

I just want you inside of one of my various orifices.

Lyric Analysis #10—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

I need some love like I never needed love before

(Wanna make love to ya, baby)

I had a little love, now I'm back for more

(Wanna make love to ya, baby)

I need some love like I never needed love before

(Wanna make love to ya, baby)

I had a little love, now I'm back for more

(Wanna make love to ya, baby)

Interpretation: Now, I shall reiterate my needs. I’m horny. Let’s do this thing. Your job is not to judge me for my kinks but to finish the fucking task of getting me off. Jesus. How many times do I have to repeat myself?

Lyric Analysis #11—Spice Girls, 2 Become 1

Set your spirit free, it's the only way to be

It's the only way to be

It's the only way to be

Interpretation: Butt stuff.

Butt stuff.

Butt stuff.
