The Underwood Dragon

Lilly is on school holidays; she went camping with her parents. She is sitting in her new Landcruiser, her parents assume there is enough space inside the Landcruiser to sleep and eat. But Lilly knows there's not enough space in the car. Lilly has a dog named Jeffy. He is coming to camp. Her brother Jordan does not want to come because Jeffy licks him and then Jeffy’s saliva comes out of his mouth and dribbles on Jordan's pants. I know that is a bit disgusting anyway, but Lilly’s parents decided that they were going to Underwood Island. In stories and news Lilly heard there are volcanoes, which are big and black. It has fire in it. Lilly said she is not scared of volcanoes if they do not erupt during my school holidays.

Lilly and her family are already halfway through, and Lilly’s home is far away. Her brother Jordan is getting grumpy because he asked for Ice Cream and her parents said no, and he will get the flu. Before that, he asked to bring his laptop, and his parents said no to that as well. Lilly knows whenever Jordan gets on his laptop and plays Fortnite he forgets where he is, on the couch or inside the game. One time he was playing, he asked for juice and biscuits, and I came to give them to him he said to give it to him. I handed it to his hands and then he dropped it on his laptop. This is why Lilly’s parents have to buy him a new one. Lilly’s pet Jeffy is sleeping on her. His head is on her lap and Jeffy’s half-body is on Jordan's lap. They are scared Jeffy have done an accident on them.

When Lilly and their family arrived at Underwood Island, there were so many trees. She took her tents out, and then set up the camp. Lilly’s parents put their tents closer to the fire, and her tent was closer to her car. Later at night, Jeffy the dog was cold, so he came out of his kennel and went into Jordan’s tent. Jordan was annoyed that Jeffy was sleeping inside his tent. The next day Lilly woke up and went to look for Jeffy. She could not find it, so she went into her brother's tent; Jeffy was there. Lilly then went out of the tent, looked in the food bag, and found a packet of chips, cookies, Lollis, fruit, and sandwiches. Lilly wanted to eat a sandwich, so she got out the sandwich and took a bite. It smelled like musty or mushrooms.

Lilly decided not to eat, her parents decided to go for a walk. Lilly asked if she could go for a walk, because she thinks there are dragons on every island, hiding somewhere. Her parents said she could go for a walk, but she had to take Jeffy with her. Lilly went to check if Jeffy and Jordan are awake, Jeffy’s awake and Jordan is still sleeping, his snoring is loud enough that anyone can get deaf. Lilly took Jeffy for a walk; they went through the path. Until they enter a place that says, “Underwood Dragons palace.” Lilly did not care that she entered. Back at camp her parents came and had breakfast with Jordan. Jordan asked where Lilly and Jeffy are, and then Jordan asked if he could go for a walk, and then he did go for a walk. Lilly entered the palace, there were so many volcanoes around. It was so hot; Jeffy was scared and snuggled Lilly’s knees. Then Lilly whispered, ‘Jeffy everything's okay, let's have fun exploring this place.’ They followed the path; they heard small voices like in stories dragons' babies are hatching. They ignored the voice and entered the palace. Inside the palace is a man, he’s sitting on a chair. Lilly and Jeffy did not take a step further, they feared the voices coming from the small forests. Lilly asked Jeffy to stay near the tree, and she tied a knot with the tree.

Lilly went for a walk through the trees, to see how dragon eggs hatch. She took a deep breath, then suddenly she heard a voice, like volcanoes erupting. The heat came through her shoes, and it heated her body. Then Lilly looked around to see where Jeffy was, she could not find Jeffy. She saw small dragons flying around, she thought for a moment she was dreaming; but that’s reality. Then Lilly’s heart started beating fast, she could be scared. She thinks about if she dies, Jeffy’s lost, and my parents disappear; and the world is going to end.

The ground trembled, Lilly ran out of the forest; she went back to the tents. Everywhere dragons were flying, and her parents were hiding inside the tents. Lilly’s brother Jordan, asked where’s Jeffy; ‘didn’t you take him for a walk with you?’ Lilly told them dragons have surrounded the place, most probably by now; he's eaten up by all dragons. Lilly’s parents asked Lilly to go look for Jeffy. Then everyone went to look for Jeffy. No one can find Jeffy.

After a while, Lilly sees an egg hatching and believes a dragon has eaten Jeffy. Lilly was running away, then the wind blew everything. It was like the earth's ending, or the Underwood Island erupting to its end. Dragons were flying everywhere, one baby dragon came and screamed ‘I won’t hurt you.’ Lilly did not believe dragons could speak. One of the dragons came and said, ‘I won’t hurt you, stop running away’, Lilly stopped there. Then the dragon came down and said, ‘This Island is for Dragons, there are volcanoes in deep forests.’ Lilly said, ‘You can’t make me go back home; my puppy Jeffy is lost; so, go please don’t me.’ Dragon came down and stand, and said ‘My name is Liam, what is your name little girl?’ Lilly told me her name. The Dragon told Lilly, he is a human, and he got a spell that he turned him into a dragon.

A witch came one day to me, no one believes but they have turned me into a dragon. Lilly heard what the dragon said, and Lilly told the dragon ‘Interesting you are a human and witches are real.’ Then she asked, ‘is there a way I can help you, and you can help me find my Jeffy?’ Then Liam the dragon said yes. Liam told Lilly “Lilly you must go to the volcanoes, then you would find a small home; in their lives the witch. The witch should not know you're there.’ Lilly didn’t get why she should go to the witch's home, she asked the dragon ‘Liam, why do you want me to go to the witch's home?’ Liam replied, ‘You need to go there and steal her spell book, so I can turn back into human; and I will try to find your puppy.’ Lilly was happy after hearing Liam isn’t a scary dragon, so she went back to her campsite. Then she found her brother Jordan then she told all about what the dragon said.

Jordan did not believe dragons could speak language, Jordan asked her sister Lilly if he could go and meet the dragon. Lilly said ‘yes,’ Lilly went with her brother Jordan. Liam lives in the woods. Lilly went to the woods with her brother and called Liam’s name. Then he came flying and landed on the big rock. He asked, Lilly did you go to witches' home?’ Lilly said no. Lilly told Liam the dragon, Jordan is here to meet you, and he will help us. Then Lilly asked about what happened to her puppy. She thinks all the dragons ate her small puppy, Jeffy. Lilly went with her brother Jordan to the witch's home.

Lilly remembered what the dragon said, so she went inside the chimney. The chimney was big and dusty, it was an old home. Then beside there was firewood in a big pack. Then there were shelves of books, and there were two different sticks. One big stick which the witch rides on it, and other small one to do small spells. Lilly got the small stick, which is called a wand. Jordan her brother asked Lilly ‘how are we going to exit this witch's home, and where is our puppy?’ Lilly ignored her brother. Then she saw the witch coming, she hid behind the books. The witch was so tall, tall as trees or even taller. Then we went to get the small spell book. After we got the spell book, we hid behind other books, so the witch doesn’t spot us. Jordan told me when she turns around, we should run to the nearest open window; which is next to the kitchen. So, Jordan and Lilly ran to the kitchen, and hid behind there.

They both went outside, then they saw Liam flying back, then she gave the small wand and the spell book back to Liam. Lilly asked the dragon about her puppy (Jeffy), Liam said he knows where Jeffy is, and Jeffy will return to you. Jordan was not really interested in where Jeffy is, because Jeffy would lick his cheeks, and he smells a lot. Anyway, Lilly and Jeffy went back to camp side, while on the way back there were some volcanoes faraway erupting. Lilly had heat stroke, but she managed to go back, the water they brought from home was warm. Lilly asked Liam to turn Miss.Witch to her normal size. After a while Lilly’s parents came back to the campsite and told them they also saw dragons. They said that the dragon's name was Timothy, and he was younger in his family. Lilly didn’t believe dragons could be friendly to everyone, she could not even believe Liam the dragon was friendly. Lilly asked if they asked about Jeffy, Lilly’s parents did not ask. Then Later at night, everyone was sleeping in their tents. Lilly heard someone whispering her name, she went out. Then she saw 3 different dragons, and she only knew Liam. Lilly asked ‘Liam, what are you doing here?’ Liam said I have something to tell you.

Lilly asked what do you need to tell me, is it about Jeffy? Liam answered yes. Liam said “Lilly this is your puppy Jeffy, turned into dragon as well. The witch did a small spell on him. I would like you to follow the spells in this book; and turn us back to human and puppy. Also, this is my little brother Timothy.” Lilly said ‘yes, give me a minute to find the right spell.’ Lilly was happy and she quickly did the spell on Liam. Then Liam was not a dragon, he turned into a human. Which he was, then Liam helped turn Jeffy back to puppy. After breaking the spell, Lilly turned Timothy back to human as well, because he was Liam’s brother. Timothy was pleased he was back to human, Timothy told Lilly to pack her stuff, and quick return to your home. Otherwise, that which will catch you. Lilly told she wants to meet the witch, because she wants anyone who comes here for a holiday does not have to turn into animals or different creatures.

Liam said yes, and then Lilly quickly woke her brother Jordan. Jeffy ran to Jordan, and Jordan did not mind. Then Lilly talked about who is who, and there is no more dragons. Lilly went to witch's home. It was far in woods; Lilly left a letter which said

“Dear Miss. Witch,

I am Lilly, and I came for a holiday to Underwood Island. I have found you have been turning people into different creatures like dragons. Which does not exist in the real world. I would like to know why you are doing this. I will visit your home, see you later.

As soon they send the letter to Miss. Witch. She read the letter, then she tried to find her magic book to trace where the letter came from. She could not find it. Lilly packed her camping clothes. Next morning, she made breakfast, and asked her parents if she could really go for a walk, then her parents did not agree. They said we found Jeffy and now let us go back home, it’s dangerous to live here. Lilly said she wants to go and meet the dragons, Lilly’s parents said you can Jordan with you, and Jeffy will stay with us.

Lilly went with Jordan to see Liam, he was hiding up the tree, on the branches. Lilly asked Liam to come down, he came down. Lilly asked if he could come to Miss. Witches home but spy us, if we get into trouble, you can help us. As Lilly said this, a voice behind Lilly said, ‘me too.’ She turned around, it was Liam’s little brother Timothy. Lilly said sure, you can come with us, but be a spy and be hidden.

Lilly went to Miss. Witches home; her brother did not want to come. He was forced by his own sister and his parents, Jordan knows if mum or dad found out about Lillys lie about going for a walk, meant going to Miss. Witches home to get trapped. Jordan and Lilly knocked on the door. Miss. Witch opened and said, ‘who’s there, I can’t see anyone, did anyone knock?’ Lilly and Jordan hid. Lilly quickly went inside and looked for clues to whether she was a magician or a human. Lilly found clothes in her wardrobe, when Miss Witch came in, she found clothes on ground. She thought all those little mice looking for cheese again.

She had to hang all clothes back and piled her different kinds of hats. She had one that looked like a painter’s hat, one looked like cowboy hate. Anyway, Lilly thought to read all of Miss. Witches books, because if might have little clue who she is. Lilly went into Miss. Witches old library, it did not look like what Lilly imagined. Lilly imagined it would have spiders, webs and cockroaches, flies etc. It was neat, so Lilly went inside and got a little book. It was called My Journal.

Lilly took the journal, she knew this place wasn’t safe for her to read, so she quickly exited out of the closest window. While she went out Miss. Witch saw her, and shouted ‘Come back, whatever you took please return it back.’ Lilly ran, and she shouted ‘run everyone, Miss. Witch is known that someone is spying her. 'Lilly went back to the trees, where Liam lives. Miss. Witch could not follow her magic book and would not work, so she wrote a note; and stick at her door. Lilly read the diary. She found out Miss. Witch is not a witch, people called her in her childhood.

Jordan did not believe what her sister told him about Miss.Witch. He then asked Lilly if they could read the book as a group. Lilly said sure. When they finish reading Miss. Witch's journal. They found out Miss. Witch is a human; she was poor girl. She was one of those kids who was left alone, people usually told her she is a Witch. She found a spell booklet one day, beside the road; she admired magicians. Lilly planned to meet up with Miss.Witch; but Lilly doesn’t want any magic to be on her. So, late at night Lilly and her friends went to Miss. Witches home; when she was sleeping. They took all the books that had magic spells in it, even the big broom she rides on.

The next day, Lilly went to visit Miss. Witch in the woods, she first wrote a letter. Miss. Witch did not believe that letter said Lilly admires her. When Lilly went and meet her, Miss. Witch said ‘So, your name is Lilly, and you want to know what made me beautiful; strong witch?’ Lilly said yes.’ Then Miss. Witch said, ‘I just needed a right book to know my new spells. Somedays back you have stolen my spell books, and yesterday at night.’ Lilly answered yes, and then she asked ‘Miss.Witch why did you want to be a witch, and why do you live here?’

Miss. Witch laughed, then said you already know why I became a witch. My name is Glinda Witch, people made fun of my last name. Other than that, I was poor and an orphan. Lilly, I have lived here since I turned 10. Lilly did not know what to say, while Miss. Witch continue telling her story; she keeps on saying (okay, or sorry to hear that). After Miss. Witch finish telling her story, Lilly asked her if she could stop putting spells on people when they come here for holidays. Miss. Witch said she did spells on people, so no one can judge her.

Then Miss.Witch asked Lilly why she wants to know about her, Lilly told she have seen people come here for holidays; then turn into a dragon. Lilly asked Miss. Witch if she could live as a normal person, with other people; Miss. Witch said no, one wants to be my friend. I know you have stolen my spell books, give me back or I turn you into a frog. After saying that, Miss. Witch feels she is alone. Lilly smiled, and said, Miss. Witch, I would like to be your friend; and my brother.’ After saying that, Miss. Witch felt happy, she said where your brother is, I know some of your friends must be hiding around here.’

Lilly told, yes my little brother and my friends are hiding around here; they are here to see me if I'm safe with you. Miss. witch laughed and said, I have turned many people into dragons, if I had my wound and spell book here, I could have turned you into a dragon. Lilly felt she is not safe, but she knows she does not have anything to do with magic. Then Lilly asked, why do you want to turn me into a dragon, it's not fair, we come here for holidays. Miss. Witch replied, you already know, and I live here alone. I need some help, if I turn other humans into dragons, I could ask them for help.

Lilly agreed in danger, and said, Miss. Witch do you live with anyone here, or is it just you? Miss. Witch said no, and stop asking questions about me. Then Lilly said, you turned my puppy into a dragon a few days back. Miss. Witch said, and you turn him back to puppy, and all of my dragons are back to human. You even stole my spell books, so you have no right to stay here. Lilly got scared, and she didn’t know what to say or do, so she started crying in fear she would turn into a dragon. While Lilly cried, Miss. Witch remembered the days, when she went to school people made fun of her.

Then Miss. Witch saw Lilly in that same situation, of no help. Even though Lilly’s friends and her brother hiding somewhere. Miss. witch said ‘fine Lilly, I get what you mean.’ Then Lilly told Miss. Witch to be a nice person. Then Miss.Witch kind of ignored and said okay. Then Lilly said, I would like you to visit my home. Miss. Witch did not believe about Lilly wants me to be friends with her. Then Miss. Witch said yes. It was afternoon when Lilly went back to the campsite.

Lilly and Jordan talked about Miss. Witch, and their parents watching them being crazy about something. Mum asked Lilly about walking to the forest, Lilly replied it was fantastic, we had fun and made a new friend.’ After saying that Lilly remembered she should not mention anything about Miss. Witch or magic. But she already knows her parents have seen dragons, so now she’s going to tell about Miss. Witch. Mum heard the story, and she thought to leave the place. Lilly and Jordan pack their stuff and didn’t know if they can keep the magic books. Lilly asked Jordan to go and give these books to Liam and Timothy.

Jordan went and gave it to them, and Timothy thought not to keep these books, but Jordan forced him. Lilly and Jordan went back home. Holidays are nearly over, but she can’t tell her friends about dragons' existence. The next day, Lilly wrote a letter to Miss. Witch and she did come and visit Lilly. In the end Miss. Witch learnt how to make friends, she never lived alone on an island. She just went there for the holidays. Miss. Witch and Mum are now good friends, and it turned out that Mum knew Miss. Witch; and Miss. Witch didn’t want spell books back. Instead, she tore the pages apart and she hated magic.
