The Moon and The Sky

A Love Story

One night, years and years ago, the sky began swooning over the moon. The moon would dance with the stars all night long and she never noticed the sky falling deeper and more in love with her radiance as she would light up the night sky. The sky would spend hours watching the moon, wishing that she would notice him in all his vastness. For the sky, after all, held all the stars for the moon to dance with. The sky loved being the dance floor between the moon and her stars, however he was becoming ready to announce his love for the moon.

The sky didn’t want to scare the moon into hiding so he quietly hashed out a plan with the stars. For the next month he would draw something beautiful with the stars in hopes of catching the moon’s eye. First he drew her the most beautiful mountain range, followed the next day by the ocean, and after that, a beautiful bouquet of marigolds. Slowly the moon started noticing these extravagant drawings among the stars. Each night the drawing would change and each night the moon would smile in anticipation of what the sky would draw next.

Finally the sky gathered up all his courage to talk to the moon. He had her attention but suddenly lost all his words because he was so taken back by her power, beauty and confidence. He felt so lucky to just be in her presence. The sky finally pulled himself together only to be able to say a simple “hello”. The moon giggled as she smiled and said “hello”. The sky then asked the moon to a dance. They danced in her moonlight and among the stars for months to come. The sky was finally able to embrace the moon in all her beauty and she knew he would always be there to hold her up.

The moon and the sky became so entwined together that they became forever locked in a constant embrace that was destined to outlast time until the stars themselves flickered out and burned.

One day their love for each other reached an extraordinary level. For the moon and the sky had been alone with the stars for far too long. All of a sudden the sky exploded in a golden haze of beauty and wonder! The love between the sky and moon created the golden child, known as the sun. The sun was a symbol of their love. The moon loved the drawing of the marigolds in the stars and wanted to showcase just how beautiful her love for the sky really was.

The sun was golden, bright and magnificent just like the marigold. The sky would take turns embracing the moon and sun. When the moon would go to sleep, the sky would hold the sun up high enough to light the way for her when she would wake up and be ready to dance again. The sky wasn’t finished yet though. He wanted to give her a gift she could continuously relive out of the love they had for each other.

When the moon would go to sleep and the sky would hold up the sun, he was in search of the perfect little place on earth to grow the flower that started it all, the marigold. One day he found the most perfect little field and together the sun and the sky started growing field after field of bright, golden marigolds.

Finally the time had come to gift the beautiful marigolds to his beautiful muse, the moon. The sun went to bed and the moon woke up. The sky was so excited that he told the moon to look down and tell him what she saw. She immediately started glowing brighter and more beautiful than ever before. She was overcome with joy as she saw all the marigolds in all their glory for everyone to enjoy.

From that moment on the sky, the moon, and the sun continued to spread their love throughout time creating beauty from simplicity and shining their light on those who needed to feel love the most.
