After several hours of apple picking, Skye, Evan, and Jo'dan were returning to the infirmary.

The two men had remained close the whole time, and now the trainee was going out of his way to ensure Evan didn't trip or fall.

It made Skye slightly suspicious of Jo'dan.

She glanced at her hands, feeling the nanites scurry inside her body. Then she quickly glanced at Evan. There had to be a way to get more. Her friend deserved to be fully recovered.

Skye thought about the compound where Olsen had injected her with them.

Months later, Dae'lon still made his men make trips to retrieve Wanderer technology. Perhaps she could convince him to let her go back to find more nanites.

Spotting Olsen standing outside the tent, Skye quickened her pace. She needed to know if there were any more nanites.

The doctor looked at her, slightly flinching, "Hello."

Skye crossed her arms, "How many nanites were created?"

Olsen blinked, "Why do you ask?"

"Just tell me."

"Thousands."

"And are they still functional?"

"Yes, why?"

Skye stole another glance at Evan, "Because we need them."

Olsen followed her gaze, frowning, "It's risky."

"Yet you gave them to me." She crossed her arms, "So we know they work."

"On women." Olsen straightened, "I don't know what would happen if I gave him the nanites."

Skye knew Evan would take the risk if it meant he would be fully healed. He hated being a 'gimp.' And she would have as well.

She also knew Ava would jump on the chance to have some for herself.

"Just talk to Dae'lon about it." Worst-case scenario, they would have to do it behind the general's back if he said no. But she'd prefer not to be in trouble. Not for this.

"Alright, fine. I'll do it."

"Thank you."

Nodding, Olsen practically bolted away from her.

Skye smirked. Months later, he was still afraid of her. And for some perverse reason, it gave her bounds of satisfaction. Not that she planned on throwing him again.

She skipped away from the tent and headed toward the square. Much of the food was still served there, and her stomach rumbled.

Grabbing a sandwich and coffee, Skye inhaled the sweet air, basking in the sun shining down on the base. Overall, this was a good day.

However, that quickly disappeared, a voice saying, "So we meet again."

Curling her lip, Skye turned, "Go away!"

Devin raised a brow, "This is a public area." Then he grinned, "much like the locker rooms."

She suppressed a shudder. "What's your deal? Your skull too thick to understand that I don't like you?"

He stepped toward her. "Oh, I know you do."

Was Devin out of his mind? How does a drunken one-night stand translate to her desiring him?

Skye stood her ground, "No, I don't, dickhead."

"Everyone does."

That made her snort, "In your twisted dreams." She sipped her coffee. "So why don't you head back to your quarters and jerk off?"

Rage lit his eyes, and Devin reached for her.

But Skye side-stepped him, literally kicking him in tha ass. "Don't you dare touch me!"

"I see," he crawled back up, "it's because of him."

Skye raised a brow, internally wincing at the venom in his voice, "You'll have to be more specific."

"That Wanderer you've been—"

"Been what?"

Skye exhaled loudly. Finally. Took him long enough.

Devin turned, disgust crossing his face, "Stay out of this."

Galen laughed with no humor, looming over him, "No, I want you to complete that sentence."

Devin back in her direction. "This doesn't involve you, invader."

"Wow, I'm so wounded."

Skye smirked at his sarcasm, taking a bite of her sandwich. This would be fun to watch.

"But," Galen stared him down, "anything involving Skye involves me, and I've been letting this happen for far too long."

Devin faced her, "She's just as bad as that other—"

He punched the jackass right in the nose, who fell flat on his back. "I've waited so long to do that."

Skye noted the others watching them.

Blood poured onto the ground, Devin clutching his face, "I'm telling Jamie about your assault."

"What assault?" Nash stepped forward. "I didn't see any assault."

"Nor I," Jo'dan also moved toward him. "I saw a Wanderer defending an innocent female from a real asshole."

Man, she loved those two so much right now.

Galen peeled him off the ground, "And I would do more to your miserable ass, but none of these women need to see that."

She might have, but she remained silent. She wasn't one to encourage violence, even if it was called for.

He threw Devin back on the ground and, before she could blink, slammed his mouth against hers.

Skye moaned, loving the territorial display. It made her whole body light up. But she somehow didn't drop her lunch when he pulled away, her head spinning.

Now that was a good kiss.

Skye looked at Devin, who stared at them with pure fury. She didn't give a damn what he thought of her. She was sick and tired of his bullshit. And Nash and Jo'dan stood over him, so he couldn't do anything.

She also glanced at the crowd, her friends grinning ear to ear. That made her blush a little, not having planned any of this.

Galen grabbed her arm, "Come with me."

The unusual huskiness of his voice made her weak at the knees: Skye biting more of her sandwich. It was the only thing she could do to be composed at the moment.

Skye let him guide her back to their unit, heart pounding in her ears. What was going to happen? Would Galen finally make the move? She certainly hoped so.

***

Body shaking, Galen carefully led Skye back to their unit, making sure no one followed them. He was in no mood for small talk.

It had taken every ounce of willpower for him not to beat Devin to a pulp. And he probably would've if it hadn't been for the witnesses.

It had also taken strength for him not to have his way with her on one of the tables. That would have made his claim iron-clad. But he figured Skye wouldn't have been okay with it.

Opening their unit door, Skye had the oddest expression as she walked inside, setting her food down.

Galen closed the door behind him. "What?"

"You surprised me."

"How?"

"That kiss." She rubbed her thumb against her lower lip. "I didn't take you as some who likes public displays of affection."

"We are actually very public about it," he stepped toward her, "but most humans prefer privacy."

Challenge sparked in her eyes, "Depends on the person."

Groaning, Galen couldn't hide what he wanted. "I'm trying to be good, my sweet."

Skye grinned, "I don't want you to be good." She took off her coat and shoes, then her shirt.

He adjusted his pants, his dick pressing uncomfortably against them. "You are a temptress."

"And you're a Goddamn tease." She unzipped her jeans. "You've been torturing me for two months now."

"Me? Torturing you?" Galen moved closer, moving his mouth to her ear, "I hear what you do to yourself in that room of yours."

She shuddered, "Only because you haven't."

He shifted behind her, "I was waiting for you to approach me."

"Why?"

"It's the way of my people." Even if he had horrible experiences with the custom.

Skye faced him, "Here, men often make the first move."

He grazed her skin with his fingertips, "I see."

She closed her eyes, "So what are you waiting for?"

"I want to take my time with you, my sweet," Galen kissed her temple. "You're too special to deserve anything less."

Skye sighed, "But I want you, now."

"So impatient."

"Yes."

He chuckled, "I'm not saying no." He moved to her jaw, "But your patience will be worth it."

Skye groaned, "Fine, but you will be inside me before the day's done."

A strange sensation spread through him. No female had ever wanted him as Skye did. And it made him feel desired, sexy, and even loved.

But he wasn't going to make that conclusion about her feelings, not when he didn't know what he felt beyond lust.

Galen removed his shirt and pants, lifting her into his arms, "Are you ready?"

"Yes."

He grinned, "Good."
