Stumbling upon something sinister.

A side story involving one of my favourite characters from my 'Unholy Beings' books - Rosie, Rose, Ella. See my profile for more snippets, or bio for a link to the books! (& to find out what becomes of this!)

The brunette groaned rolling onto her side beneath the blanket she found herself covered in. Groggy and disoriented she peeked open one eye, expecting to be greeted with the blinding sun, but instead found herself still in the darkness. Confused, the woman stumbled from her bed, cringing as her feet hit the cold wooden floor. This was going to suck. The warmth of the cover clung to her as she stood, and she quickly swatted it away. Urged on by the weight of her wanting to empty bladder. Another groan escaped her lips as she stepped one foot forward. Was this even her caravan? No, probably not.

Rosie threw out her arms, grabbing at whatever she could feel, finding nothing but cupboards and hanging clothing against her fingertips. Annoyed, she thrust her hands out in front of her instead, hoping to find the door, and thankfully this time she wasn’t disappointed. Reaching the knob of the door she twisted it all too harshly, yanking it open with a creak. Silence greeted the brunette as she stumbled down the three steps of the caravan and onto the damp grass. By the height of the moon, she guessed it to be around half past two in the morning. At least a few stragglers should have still been awake. Grunting, she opened her second eye and surveyed her surroundings, keen for a quiet place to pee.

The edge of the woodlands caught her eye, far away from the remains of the still smoldering bonfire and Rosie headed off in that direction. Stumbling over a few drunken beings who seemed to have passed out on the floor. Cursing them all, she gave them a gentle nudge with her foot and a chuckle. Oh, she’d certainly been there. Thank goodness it hadn’t rained on them like it always did her, when she’d found herself in such a far too gone state to stumble into the nearest caravan.

Still giggling over the misfortune of her friends, she hopped into the thick woodland, taking cover behind at least three pine trees, before deciding to relieve herself. The sound of a small stream, along with her contented sigh, echoed in the silence around her and she smiled. A still half drunken, dim witted smile as her head fell to the side. Quickly catching her floppy body, Rosie reached for the stability of the nearest tree. Holding herself upright as she finished releasing the small stream. Wait, was that whimpering she could hear?

Yanking up her knickers beneath her crimson skirt, Rosie stood to her feet, immediately on alert. As carefully as she could, she fumbled her still tipsy body slowly towards the sound. Eager to avoid standing on any crunchy leaves or fallen branches, that may give her position away. The whimpering was definitely getting louder. Raising a brow, Rosie continued forward, peering behind the last pine tree on the edge of the forest. Before instinctively throwing a hand before her mouth in shock. Had she just stumbled upon something quite naughty? Or worse, sinister? Either way Rosie was going to put a stop to it.

The burly woman rolled up the sleeves of her white cotton blouse and marched out from behind her tree. Despite the dim light she could clearly see what was occurring between the pair. A man certainly a lot older than the female beneath him, was going to town upon her neck. Smacking his lips against her sweet skin, as he slurped up every inch of her that he could. Immediately flipping Rosie’s stomach and making her want to retch. Even more so when the clouds parted to allow the moonlight and she saw the crimson spilling from the girl's skin. Rosie almost cried aloud. Having to steady herself as she almost toppled over with disgust and fear. Everything about this scene was absolutely not okay.

Thankfully the man was too busy devouring his prey to notice Rosie only metres away from him, and the woman decided to take it as her chance. Reaching for one of the daggers she always kept strapped beneath her thigh, Rosie grimaced at the movement of her stomach as she fell to a crouch. Why did she always go overboard on the wine? Ignoring the liquid sloshing about inside of her, she crept slowly forward. Straddling the bottom of the girl’s legs, painfully close behind the feeding being, and placed a dagger against his gulping throat.

“Make another move and I’ll kill ya’” She whispered.

The man simply came to a stop and laughed, raising his hands in defeat.

“What are you?” She demanded.

“Oh, sweetheart.” He cooed, “You seem no fool. Whatever do you think me to be?”

Rosie’s eyebrows twitched to the top of her forehead, “A vampire?”

Another laugh came from the man and Rosie flinched. The woman was usually one filled with confidence. Yet the cold alluring aura of the man before her put her on edge, and suddenly everything clicked into place. There was no music, because there was nobody left to play. The bodies she’d given an affectionate ‘wake up’ kick to? They were dead. Gasping, she flung a hand before her mouth. But it was too late, this time the wine was coming back up whether she wanted it to or not. However, that didn’t mean she would let the stranger get away. One hand fell to the ground to steady herself, and the one that had been against his neck, pulled him into a clumsy headlock, as she emptied out the contents of her stomach.

“And what’s ya’ purpose here?” She questioned between heaves.

“Is that not obvious?”

“Why kill?!” She yelled, wiping the bile from her lips. “Surely killing all ya’ prey goes against the bloody point?”

“Oh, sweetie.” He began, “We can still kill for fun.”

That sentence forced Rosie cold. She knew right there and then, the man she held in a headlock had to die. Or did he?
