A child lost his parents while going out hiking.

The unfamiliar scene was not too his liking.

The color left his skin, he started to turn pale.

The fear had just set in, he started up a wail.

He'd beaten up his mind, how could he gone and fail?

He struggled, couldn't find, the lost forest trail.

With the sun in the sky, he did some simple math.

It'd be setting soon, but he couldn't find the path.

He knew that bears here did roam, out well past noon.

The night would be dark, tonight was a new moon.

With the darkness and the bears, he wanted to be saved.

Crawling over rocks, he hid inside a cave.

Sticking to the walls, he went not deep within.

Not seeing on the walls, a creature's grey rock skin.

Clinging to the wall and hanging like a bat.

A hidden relic of the ages, a flying acrobat.

As if forgotten for all time, a species left behind.

Pushed into hiding, rarely seen by mankind.

Survived a mass extinction, the age of dinosaurs.

Winged membranes with long necks, dragons evolved from pterosaurs.

Though they can't breathe fire, they make a terrifying presence.

The dragon wasn't hungry, it wanted peace and sleep.

It allowed the child to stay, his company it would keep.

Then it heard a growl, from outside of its lair

It tracked the little boy, a hungry grizzly bear.

After hibernation it was starving from its rest.

It followed a scented meal back to the dragon's nest.

The boy now cowered down, hands placed overtop his head.

The bear had began to charge, but in its tracks it stopped dead.

The grey stone dragon climbed down, it came from off the wall.

It took a threatening stance, it stood up proud and tall.

The bear took this sight and beared down, it took up its charge.

The dragon sent them flying, though both were very large.

The dragon went and tackled, the bear out of its home.

A rush of air went over the kid, and he now was left alone.

The kid now looked up, to the scene his eyes were glued.

Against a mammal was a reptile, a battle that ensued.

One that stuck to land, his bulk was great with weight.

The other slender, tall, a beautiful crane-like shape.

Circling one another, they did so screech and roar.

Hungry, territory, they needed to settle the score.

The bear then scratched the dragon, ripping hairs right off its chest.

The dragon rammed the bear, with horns atop its crest.

The bear then tried to swipe, with its paws then, left and right.

The dragon flapped its wings, to the air it took up flight.

Swooping overhead, the dragon glided; it even seemed to float.

Then behind the bear, it grabbed its neck; it grabbed the brown fur coat.

The dragon threw the bear, into a thorny bush.

The bear got up and ran, it was in a rush.

The bear now ran away, into the forest it had sped.

The bear now ran away, from the battle it had fled.

The bear was not expecting to be picked up off the ground.

The bear just went off somewhere, an easier meal had to be found.

The dragon returned to its cave, it wasn't even hurt.

It sniffed at the boy; it smelled his hair and then his shirt.

Then outside the cave, he went and sniffed the air.

The boy could not stay here, not in the dragon's lair.

Grabbing by the shirt and pants, the dragon grabbed the boy's fabric.

It lifted him up gently, dropping him would be tragic.

Still dripping tears, the boy was too afraid.

In this creature's jaws, was he truly saved?

Jumping from the edge, it went into the sky.

The boy had seized in fear, he thought that he would die.

Flying on the wind, hearing voices, but then a smell.

Just like the boy, the dragon's sense could tell.

Seeing small lights down, sweeping on the ground.

Two rangers and his parents, are who the dragon found.

Then it smelled something that resembled rocks of salt.

The dragon smelt tears; parents crying, believing they're at fault.

Desperately searching, before the darkness chased the sun.

They were searching frantically, trying to find their son.

Circling on downwards, the dragon started its descent.

It hoped the older humans had no ill-intent.

His parents watching them, they saw them touch the ground.

The dragon flapped its wings, reared up, then it touched down.

The parents shocked in horror, fearing for their boy.

They did not know the beast's intentions, what it would employ.

The dragon laid him down, set him gently on the rocks.

Then by backing off, it crawled, hopped, then took off.

The mother picked up her son, holding him in her arms.

She clutched on him so tightly, protecting him from harm.

The dad watched the dragon, hop and fly away.

A creature of such threatening size, and yet it stayed at bay.

Joining with his wife, he wondered if this is as wild as life would get.

The beast had seemed so gentle, but he still saw it as a threat.

The mom held their son, covering him in kisses.

A park ranger said, "So, you found him with the Mrs?"

The boy felt something sharp, in his shirt he felt a tooth.

The legend was cemented, they had evidence of the truth.

Then a few years later, he was more than six and ten.

He was hiking with his parents, on the trail again.

Now they stayed together, no longer were they reckless.

On his shirt around his neck, one tooth on a necklace.

Once they found the cave, he said, "That's it. That's the lair."

They looked up at the sky, and saw the dragon in the air.

Great job with this, Thavien! I really enjoyed the story and found it quite impressive it was told in poetic form! It can be challenging to find the right rhymes for a story, but you executed this wonderfully! I really loved these lines: “Clinging to the wall and hanging like a bat. A hidden relic of the ages, a flying acrobat.” Great job! 😊

Impressive! To be able to maintain the story and the rhythm for the length. Good work!

This was such a grand adventure! I loved that you made this in poetic form yet I could still easily follow along like a story. And YAY that the little boy made it back to his family and the dragon lived on :) Great work!
