"There's a strange scent coming out of this forest." Narpheia said. Gravuss looked doubtfully at his companion. She was quite a beautiful dragon, despite her growing gauntness and sagging eyes. Sunlight penetrated her leathery wings in undulating patterns of dancing shadows across her scales, accentuating their unique colors of gold and green. In another life, perhaps Gravuss would have taken her for his mate, but life in its current state held little value in such things.

Arrow flew high over the forest towards the uncontrolled blaze that caught her eye from the mountains. Smoke billowed so black and thick it masked the dark clouds on the horizon of the moonlit sky. Fire meant the possibility of other dragons, the likes of which she had not seen after the Bestial War nearly 2 years ago when all magical creatures were hunted.
A Public Inconvenience
The silver Astra turned into the car park at the motorway services. Its sole occupant, thirty-seven-year-old Conrad, parked as far away from the building as was possible. He had been driving for two hours, and he needed to stretch his legs. The reason for his drive had been a trip to London to celebrate his sister’s fortieth birthday party.
The Hunted Prince
Penthurax sat enjoying the cool, tranquil evening in his favorite spot, the ruins of the great fortress Artarnir. The fortress was once the stronghold of the Eldermen and was the site of the last great battle between the dragons and the Eldermen. The place always made him feel powerful and confident. He could feel the spirits of his ancestors around him giving him strength and comfort. It was the only place in the lands of men where he could rest safely.
